Eric Wedge fired by Cleveland Indians

Written September 30th, 2009 by Jeff

One down, two to go.  Shapiro’s next, then Dolan (can we fire an owner?)

The Cleveland Indians just announced that the services of Eric Wedge will no longer be needed.  OK, well….maybe it’s needed through Sunday.

Wedge was fired by the Indians today, but will finish out the remainder of the 2009 season.

Two years ago next week, the Tribe was adjusting their rotation to enter the playoffs, in which they came one win away from the World Series.  This year, they are two wins away from tying the Cleveland Cavaliers for “most wins by a Cleveland franchise in the past 12 months.”

I’d like to say that he’ll be missed, but there were just too many examples of poor management that will allow me to look back fondly on his tenure here.  Plus, 64-92 this season is inexcusable.

A press conference has been scheduled for 130pm.  Let the search for a replacement begin.

That’s really too bad. I can’t see how it’s really his fault but I guess someone has to take the blame
