Seantrel Henderson has chosen the dark side...

Oh, what could have been.

Unfortunately for Buckeye Nation the title of "the next Orlando Pace" will have to wait for another player in another recruiting class.

Seantrel Henderson is a Trojan (insert joke).  He did say that Ohio State was his second choice.  Maybe he'll transfer when the sanctions get laid down this summer.

Seantreal-henderson_medium

Needless to say, the expectations and anticipation over Henderson's choice have been at a fever pitch leading up to his decision today, and for good reason. Henderson is an elite tackle the likes of which do not come around very often (click here for details).

Making the anticipation, and ultimately the disappointment, even greater for Buckeyes everywhere is the fact that left tackle is one of the few question marks that must be answered heading into next season. Many people expected Henderson to be that answer, but alas, it was not to be.

While it is obviously a huge disappointment to miss out on a player of Henderson's caliber, he and his family have handled his recruitment with dignity and class, and you can't hold it against them for making this decision. Ultimately, with the schools he was choosing from, you couldn't really blame him for picking any of them (personal biases aside).

Honestly, with the events this morning, one could almost feel this one coming.

While Henderson was expected to come in and compete for the starting left tackle position immediately at Ohio State, the cupboard isn't exactly bare.

Junior Mike Adams (whose hype coming out of high school was pretty damn high in his own right) and redshirt senior Andy Miller will be coming back to take another crack at starting. You would have to imagine that players like Marcus Hall would get a shot at left tackle as well.

So, visions of Orlando Pace aside, there are plenty of options for the Buckeyes, even though none of them are quite as appealing as Henderson.

It is a disappointing day for sure, but the sun will rise tomorrow, and Ohio State will still field a damn fine football team in the fall.

Seantrel Henderson will be helping the trojans penetrate the middle of the Beavers Defense

Why would you ever want to run the prevent defense? It's a defense specifically designed to prevent the field goal by giving them a touchdown!

Ohio State

Are you trying to convince yourself that’s true or is it really the case?

Maybe if you’re content with chasing Big 10 championship would this NSD not mean anything to you. But OSU is a NCAA powerhouse, and for them to be able to content with other powerhouses pulling in the best high school players in the country, we’ll have to do better at pulling in better recruits, simple as that. I don’t think Tressel has pixi powder that allows 3 star recruits to play like 5 stars. Do you?

Anyone saying they’re somehow more than happy at not having a great recruiting class is full of it.

by Rocland on Feb 4, 2010 11:14 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

more than happy at not having a great recruiting class

“More happy” ? I never said that. You’re the one full of **it.

One bad recruiting year doesn’t hurt this team. You clearly lack an understanding of college football recruiting. There are 4 years of eligibility, which means you need to recruit to compete year by year, it also means you won’t even see some of these guys start for 1-2 years.

Not to mention some of these 5 star guys will end up busts, while other 1-3 star players will explode into amazing talent. It happens.

Are you trying to convince yourself that’s true or is it really the case?

It absolutely is the case. You might need to calm down and understand when you already have a hell of team with a lot of the players still having 2-4 years on left on their college football careers, that one mediocre recruiting class doesn’t hurt this team.

Tressel is doing his job fantastically.
I fully expect us to contend for the National Championship every single year he’s still the head coach.

On the other side of it, we have a team like USC, ends up with what a lot of people are saying is the second best recruiting class this year. Where will they be? Nowhere.
They’re a team in transition, after an utter implosion last season. Then they go and hire a complete shit coach, who’s won next to nothing in his entire head coaching career.
Don’t expect them to be contending for anything beyond maybe a PAC 10 title (if that), as long as Lane Kiffin is there.

by Simmsinns on Feb 4, 2010 2:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’m full of it

For one, if anything Tressel has held this team back from being what it truly could be. But do you honestly think that Tressel is somehow better than the other great coaches in the NCAA to the point he could make something out of nothing? 25 other teams pulled in better players this recruiting season with coaches just as capable or even more capable than Tressel. The Big 10 is becoming more competitive, but you think we’re going to dominate teams with better athletes than OSU…..just because? That’s hilariously simple minded

OSU Obviously is going to compete for the next 1-2 or possibly 3 years. But don’t be dumb enough to believe that if recruiting stays at the pace its going now the dominance is going to continue. We’re not going to pull Michigan State level recruits yet pull Florida style numbers.
