Seantrel Henderson: The Story Continues

The recruiting sweepstakes for the nation's number one student athlete may not yet be complete.

According to Pete Thamel from the New York Times, he will not be signing his LOI today due to concerns regarding potential sanctions facing USC

According to Henderson’s father, Sean, he will wait until U.S.C. appears before an N.C.A.A. infractions committee from Feb. 19-21 to hear about possible sanctions for the program before deciding whether to sign the letter. Though the Trojans are not likely to hear about any possible sanctions at that time, Sean Henderson said the hearing would give the family a sense of where the process was headed.

We will keep you posted on this story as it develops. Huge HT to our friends at Eleven Warriors:

-------------------------------------------

[Note by Jeff at the BBC, 02/04/10 12:37 AM EST ] - Here's my take on what just happened....A lot of people are saying "this is JUST NOW coming up in his head?".  Good point.  Odds are pretty good it was a factor in his decision a long time ago, because the kid didn't find out that U$C is under investigation between 530pm and 535pm.

Our SBNation brothers at Conquest Chronicles have posted a thread too, and two readers are blaming it on "OSU recruiters".   Granted, the proprietor of CC is a good guy.  Our accusers are only readers of the site.

First of all, let me just laugh at the thought of USC fans, who have Lane Fucking Kiffin as their head coach, accusing us of tampering.

On that note, which of these two scenarios is the most likely;

1) Seantrel Henderson made his announcement on CBS, and before he could find a fax machine, Jim Tressel took a time machine into the future, then returned with the LA Times from this summer, which had a headline discussing the sanctions that the NCAA placed on USC.  Henderson then decided to hold off on his decision.

or

2) Seantrel Henderson didn't have his mind made up and wanted a few more weeks to decide, but upon seeing that CBS had spent a lot of money to fly his family to NYC, thought it would look pretty bad on his part if he didn't officially announce on live TV.  Under that pressure, he made a choice for the cameras, but later regretted it.

I go with option 2, but I hear that option 1 is popular with the same crowd that believes a plane never struck the Pentagon or that Neil Armstrong was filmed doing his moon thingy in a studio in the Arizona desert.

Wow

Almost should have seen that coming, but I definitely didn’t. That’s pretty huge news right there.

Why would you ever want to run the prevent defense? It's a defense specifically designed to prevent the field goal by giving them a touchdown!

Let's Move On!

All the wishy-washy stuff where we have to pander to a kid to come here shouldn’t be our style! I really got fed up when TP was being recruited, really! I like what the coach from Northwestern, Pat Fitzgerald said," I really don’t want to get all caught up in the cameras on when a kid picks up a hat & chooses a team. I’d rather feel like the kid was coming here from the beginning & because it was about the school from the start. I just don’t see catering to these kids as anything good, and I trust our judgement on who we recruit & not how many stars a specific recruiting agency puts behind his name." We are THE Ohio St. University, WE would make Seantrel, not the other way around. I hope he stays w/ U$C & his Dad gets that record deal w/ Snoop. We’re going to win it ALL this year & silence all the critics! O-H……I-O!!!!!!!

quite honestly...

i can’t understand the kids logic. okay, he didn’t sign with usc because he’s scared of impending sanctions at usc, so he wants to wait and see where the investigation is headed (even though that will reveal hardly anything). he wants to go to a school with coaching stability and not have to worry about ncaa sanctions so what does he do?

he verbalizes to a coach who dicked over his team (tennessee) just one month ago; the guy is a walking recruiting violation, and to a program that has been constantly under fire for the last 6 years. yeah henderson, that makes a lot of sense.

I am over it

at this point this is just a huge distraction for a team that is preparing for a national championship run

we have a redshirt senior in Andy Miller and a junior in Mike Adams (along with players like Marcus Hall and Andrew Norwell in the mix) to play left tackle this year

there are already a LOT of offers out for 2011 kids, it is going to be a large class and the state of Ohio is absolutely loaded

go look at the comments from JT in his press conference yesterday

I think this ship has sailed, and I honestly am not upset about it, Seantrel proved some things to me yesterday about what his priorities are and I am not impressed

all good points jim...

and i agree with you 100%. i’m not the guy that’s freaking out over the loss of henderson, i was just a little bummed that we only signed one o-lineman in this class when we needed to build some depth there this year. like you said, next years recruiting class will be important and loaded.

by davereg412 on Feb 4, 2010 11:18 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree that line depth is a concern

however, the coaches know what they have, and to take a risk in this class by waiting so long on players that they knew they might not get makes me think they are comfortable with their depth

Mike Adams and Andy Miller at LT, Boren at LG, Brewster at C, Browning at RG, Shugarts and Hall at LT, plus the young guys (Longo, Linsley, and Mewhort) backing up the interior of the line, all of whom received rave reviews from practice last year, not to mention some older guys that have been in the program forever (Kerr, Smith) you have to think that the stuff is fairly comfortable with the depth they have right now

like I mentioned, next years class is absolutely loaded, so I am not worried too much about depth, I am confident that this next class is going to be a monster

we’ll be fine, and Henderson is not worth the distraction at this point, and like I mentioned, I am not impressed with his priorities

Great Post!

Jim, I’m right on board with you brother! LT isn’t a real concern at this point, we’ve got 3 possibilities there as it is!

And 2011 in the state of Ohio is LOADED! I believe The Sweater Vest LET a lot of those kids leave this year because they would’ve redshirted & deterred some of those coming next year & eventually created depth problems in 2012-13. I believe Tressel sees football matters WAAAAAY before we do.

Everyone is worried about the 2ndary, but we’ve had kids buried there for FOUR years now.(Donnie Evage, Nate Oliver) And so much depth that some transferred,(R.Pentello), same with the LB spots,& O-line.(Blankenship, C.Smith, & Slagle) We won’t miss Seantrel one bit! Matter of fact, Seantrel WHO? LOL!!!!!

I am over him. I feel JT has a handle on what we have and so forth....

but a question I have is, how much of a sanction is enough to change his mind on SC? What if the NCAA says they won’t discuss it until after April 1st? Would 2 years without a bowl game be a game changer? Is one year without a bowl game a big deal to him? No national TV, only regional? I think they are just looking for more publicity in a month when they eventually do sign a LOI. Drama queens like him tend to not come here anyway, so his SC pick was not a surprise, at least to me.

by Crabapple Buck on Feb 4, 2010 2:08 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

He’s probably come to the conclusion that he’s not going to go the U$C for free, and if the sanctions come down hard, he won’t get paid.

Do we even want a player like that?

by Simmsinns on Feb 4, 2010 3:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Now I can't wait until

Feburary 22nd, when he mostly likely will decide.

Or, if you're a USC troll...

He’ll sign tomorrow, and this is all due to Ohio State tampering. LOL

I am Jack’s sense of willful ignorance.
