Tate Forcier has left the building

Written January 20th, 2011 by Eric

Someone was feeling fabulous that day

It’s now official. In a press statement released today, Tate Forcier has chosen to transfer from the University of Michigan.

I am proud to have been part of Michigan Football history and will always cherish the memory. The last few weeks I worked extremely hard to catch back up. I really wanted to stay. I was not giving up on Michigan, but in the end, it was made clear they had given up on me.

The entire press release is riddled with wonderful quotes worthy of spending hours analyzing.  But to take a shot at Michigan for “giving up on him”, whether true or not, seems like the sort of classless gesture we’ve come to expect from the former Heisman Trophy pretender.

I have to admit, it’s really tough to see him go. We’ve enjoyed watching him muddle through all of his trials and tribulations. How many players could give us wonderfully humorous memories like these?

We’ll miss you Mr. Five-cier. We hope you land on your feet somewhere, but if you don’t, we all know that it was somebody else’s fault.

“the sort of classless gesture we’ve come to expect from the former Heisman Trophy pretender.”

Yet, somehow, in an act of intellectually dishonesty, you left out Tate’s closing sentence to the effect that he would always love Michigan and be a Michigan Man. If you choose to lie by omission, your publication will lose credibility. Why not try honesty as “Plan B”…in preference to the current Plan A which we might reasonably expect from a partisan public from that great state of…I can’t even say it.

Seems we’re possibly both playing with hyperbole, since we’re being technical- Forcier never actually said “he would always love Michigan”. Not that I doubt that this is true, it’s just not there…

While we’re bringing our exegetical skills to the text, it’s interesting that Mr. Forcier is adamant that “I worked hard on the practice field, in the film room and at meetings”. It’s a pity, though, that he certainly did not work hard in the classroom and was alleged to have been less than invested in the off season.

To make sure we’re not taking this “press release” out of context, here’s the actual verbiage of his closing:

I promise the Michigan family and fans I will make you proud again.

Tate Forcier #5 – A Michigan Man Forever – Go Blue

We will certainly miss him, and wish him the success that his brother, another Michigan Man, had at an institution not named “Michigan”.

Is it really possible for our publication to lose credibility? I thought we gave that all away already.

Well, perhaps tBBC has lost its credibility, yet, somehow we keep coming back to it.. You on the other hand, R.Will seem to have lost your reading comprehension. I’ll leave it to the greater public to decide which is the greater loss.

It’s nice to see some differing opinions! Too bad some people can’t take humor in a situation.

Incidentally, if we want to get hyper technical, it’s interesting to point out that he says at the end of his first (butchered) paragraph:

It was not until then, I realized that it was my lack of accountability and maturity and not to pass blame.

He then goes on to say what I quoted above already:

I was not giving up on Michigan, but in the end, it was made clear they had given up on me.

So, he’s not passing blame but he’s passing blame?

Come on, how is this not the most amusing transfer statement ever?

I actually think his brother’s was more amusing. This one was still pretty good though.

Oh yeah, the family has gotten MUCH better at press statements.

That is, if you leave out the whole “im staying/leaving/staying/leaving/staying” drama of it all.

Eric, the implication is of blame passing. He’s not actually passing, wait, what?.. my bad.

Wow, some pretty harsh words towards a 19 year old kid. Give me a break. Is OSU all bent out of shape because of the stupidity of TP and the other players for trying to get the Benjamins? And for what it is worth, Michigan’s new AD, David Brandon, who is also the CEO of the world’s worst pizza-unless you are a stoned, cash poor college student (Dominos), started the ball rolling by stating, “Tate is no longer with the program.” Tate had an incomplete to make up- big freekin deal. Tate will land at a program that will show how great of a QB he is, for Sparta!

Yes, the fact that he’s 19 means we aren’t allowed to crack on him.

Except that he’s 20. Nice try, though.

Which words were harsh? “Heisman pretender” or “classless”?

If this is what passes for harsh these days we live in thin-skinned times indeed.

Just looking for comments on his leaving and I keep seeing these block O’s and it confuses me. Being a Spartan, I wouldn’t think of using an “M” why do you guys since you are state also?

“Block O” is a historic part of the Ohio State University, so we chose that for our default.
If we were a Spartan board, we’d have a default icon of the famous helm.

    Or this.

I only saw him play a couple of times but he seemed like he had potential. Wasn’t he name to the 2009 Big Tem all freshman team?

To my knowledge, the Big Ten does not have an all-freshman team.

But in 2009, the Big Ten did give their Freshman of the Year award to Wisconsin’s Chris Borland.

I’m more than happy to give him tBBC’s Freshman of the Year award for 2009, though….based entirely on the 5 turnovers he had in the one game against Ohio State.

He was not named to any All Conference teams in the Big Ten. He was also not named to any Conference all freshman team, because as Jeff pointed out, there is no Big Ten all freshman team.

Glad you managed to find the right compilation of player names.

Sure he had potential, but he never grasped it in any meaningful way. Of course, whether full of potential or not doesn’t change our views of him as a hysterically amusing player.

As opposed to transferring into a fake conference? Maybe he’d do better in those imaginary conferences.

Well, the good news is that if he transfers to the SEC, there’ll still be time for them to cut his scholarship after a year so he can transfer to a school in the PAC-12.

That way, the Big Ten isn’t the only conference that’s blessed by the Fivecier experience!

You know, it’s funny. The more I think about it, the more I realize that I actually went out of my way to defend Michigan’s honor. What Tate Forcier said was reprehensible – blaming the University/fans for making him leave because they “gave up on him”? That’s pretty freaking low, even if he did say later that he would always be a Michigan man.

So it’s surprising to me to see so many Michigan fans continuing to defend him. Maybe we’re not the ones that need to grow up in the end…

By “Grow up”, are you recommending that we begin going to websites about other teams and posting about that team’s fanbase there?

I’m not sure I ever want to reach that level of maturity.
