tBBC Postgame Show: Miami

Written September 18th, 2011 by Eric

Eric is joined by Michael of OHD, Josh (Bacon Ninja) of Men of the Scarlet and Gray, and Marcus Hartman of Buckeye Sports Bulletin on this week’s postgame show. The crew breaks down the tough 24-6 loss the Buckeyes suffered at the hands of the Miami Hurricanes, particularly focusing on the atrocious quarterbacking play.

There were positive takeaways from the game, and the team spends as much time talking about the things that Ohio State did right as the things they did very very wrong.

All this and more on this week’s BBC Postgame Show!

Eric, et al, nice post-mortem gentlemen. Hopefully we don’t have too many like this for this season..

At this point, I have two thoughts on The Debacle, both regarding Fickell. I can imagine it might be a dicey situation with Bollman running the offense, but LF has to take ownership of this QB situation. I think it needs to go to the QB with the greater and more flexible skill set, but I’m but a mere fan.

My other thought is on the 2nd half time outs. I’d have preferred to see him take a TO or two late in the game to give our defense a blow; they looked like they were really gassed in the fourth qtr. I think at that point, they would have appreciated any help they could get, because god knows the ‘O’ wasn’t much help.

Thanks Ken. I also hope that we don’t have to do another of those (even though it was cathartic to do so).

I actually had another thought about the Fickell timeouts thing that might suggest why he didn’t. With the game well out of hand, Fickell may have decided to go another route with his thinking. Instead of calling a timeout and giving the defense a rest, he forced them to continue to play tired.

It gets at the concept that Fickell has suggested all preseason, that this team will play the same way in the 4th quarter as it does in the first. He may have decided to take the opportunity to test that philosophy and see what his team had left in their gas tank.

Cathartic is about right. My reaction during the game was more a ‘WTF is going on here, I don’t get it?’. I’ve been more upset with other losses, and probably a couple wins than I was with this game. I kind of felt bad for the kids, going into a hostile environment and being shorthanded because of You Knw What and a couple recent injuries. The effort was there, I thought, and that’s about all I can ask.

You could be right about Fickell testing the guys in a tough non-con game. With our lack of ‘O’, I thought this game was out of hand early in 4th qtr; no way we would offensively get one TD, let alone the 2 we needed. If Fickell wanted to turn the 4th qtr into a lab experiment to see what he had on Defense, then good for him, very clever.

I’m ashamed to admit that this was the first Postgame Show I listened to, but now it’s going in my iTunes podcast playlist.

Great stuff, guys. Glad Josh could represent MotSaG and hopefully we’ll have someone lined up from here on out.

Hopefully the recaps will be after wins from now on, too!
