tBBC Postgame Show: Michigan State

Written October 1st, 2011 by Eric

Michael at OHD joins Eric for this postgame show to talk about the 10-7 Tresselball defeat of the Buckeyes by Michigan State. They talk about the issues with both offenses, but most especially Ohio State’s, and the impressive defensive display by the Buckeyes. They also address some of the other issues, including the longevity of Luke Fickell and the rest of the coaching staff, and how much Tressel must have loved the punting stats.

All this and more on this week’s Postgame Show.

Eric, nice job with Michael on this post-mortem. You (collectively) discuss some good points. First, I want to restate my appreciation for the efforts of the defense, and improving special teams. If it weren’t for the effort and results of these units, whew boy..

I agree with your assessments of our offensive game planning (you can interpret it either way..) so this season. We (coaches)simply don’t know what we are doing. I’m 60 years old and have seen a good bit of Buckeyes football, but this year’s team baffles me. This is one of the very few, if not only, years where we appear to have no idea what we want/need to do on offense. Give me a coherant approach to planning/executing an offense. I don’t care if the approach is as wrong as can be, but at least give me something.

Regarding Fickell, he does need to finish the year. Whether he comes back next year is dependent upon performance improvement, particularly on offense. He was dealt a crap hand, but he needs to improvise and pull this team through.

Regarding the two offensive coaches who we find most offensive; we can cut them loose at any time and I doubt there would be any significant effect. Hell, we can bring in a student assistant to be QB coach; just as qualified as Nick. Hold that thought..

OK, back from a ‘honey-do’ project. Sticking with coaching, agree that Miller needs someone to tutor him and I’m not sure that Nic and Jim are up to the task.

Tough stretch of games coming up, we really need to get behind this team to support it. Go Bucks.
