Huge Recruiting Weekend Preview

Written November 20th, 2012 by Joe Laing

As if The Game weren’t already primed to be an incredible event, it will be the highlight of Ohio State recruiting for the fall as well.

The names and stars speak for themselves and not to mention the sheer number of high level recruits planning to be in town is unlike any recruiting weekend we have seen in the past.  Keep in mind it is only Tuesday so plan for some minor changes throughout the week.  Also this is the first step in what will be like a NASCAR speed couple of months following recruiting as things will change and we will get in on some of the top kids in the country.

Trey Johnson

The “official visits” scheduled at this point are:

  • WR Marquez North (Charlotte, NC)
  • WR Tony Stevens (Orlando, FL)
  • LB Auston Johnson (Torrance, CA)
  • LB Daniel McMillan (Jacksonville, FL)
  • LB Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, GA)
Trey Johnson may be our best shot with the above 5.  He is currently verbally committed to Auburn but that program isn’t trending up right now.  We will know more after the weekend, but at this point I am not predicting any of the above 5 in the final class.
Other ’13 recruits that plan on being in town are:
  • Shelton Gibson

2013 LB Skai Moore (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) – at this point looks like he will take his official visit in December sometime.

  • 2013 WR Corey Smith (Akron, OH) – scheduled for his official in January.  I think it depends on how we fare with others in this class.
  • 2013 WR Demorea Stringfellow (Moreno Valley, CA)
  • 2013 WR James Quick (Louisville, KY) – he was carted off the field as his team advanced in the playoffs.  Another that will visit later in December.
  • 2013 WR Shelton Gibson (Cleveland Heights, OH) – still have him in the class.  Will visit later in the recruiting season.
  • 2013 OL David Dawson (Detroit, MI) – losing Dorian Johnson means Dawson is that much higher on the board.  Will officially visit in December.
  • 2013 DL Donovan Munger (Shaker Heights, OH) back from UCLA this past weekend, still not sure what to make of his recruitment.
  • 2013 DB Cameron Burrows (Trotwood, OH) Buckeye Verbal
  • 2013 DB Eli Woodard (Voorhees, NJ) Buckeye Verbal
  • 2013 ATH Darron Lee (New Albany, OH)
  • 2013 ATH Ryan Timmons (Frankfort, KY)
In addition to all the ’13 class, Meyer and staff will turn some of their attention to the ’14 class. We ran a preview of the ’14 class two weeks ago and a lot of those top recruits in the country including the #1 junior in the country and 3 early 5 stars will be in town.  The recruitment for these guys are just starting to heat up.

Stay tuned over the next couple months as things become a little clearer, but this is a big day with a lot of excitement around Ohio State football and these guys get a chance to talk about playing together in the future.

  • Drew Barker

    QB Drew Barker (Hebron, KY)

  • QB DeShone Kizer (Toledo, OH)
  • QB Will Ulmer (Washington D.C.)
  • RB Mikel Horton (Cincinnati, OH)
  • RB Marcus Boone (Woodbridge, VA)
  • WR Avonte Maddox (Detroit, MI)
  • WR DeMarre Kitt (Tyrone, GA)
  • WR Derek Kief (Cincinnati, OH)
  • WR Josh Malone (Gallatin, TN)
  • WR Noah Brown (Sparta, NJ)
  • Thaddeus Snodgrass

    WR Thaddeus Snodgrass (Springfield, OH)

  • TE Ethan Wolf (Minster, OH)
  • OL Demetrius Knox (Fort Worth, TX)
  • OL Marcelys Jones (Cleveland, OH)
  • OL Matthew Jones (Hubbard, OH)
  • OL Nathaniel Devers (Massillon, OH)
  • OL Quenton Nelson (Red Bank, NJ)
  • OL Damian Prince (Forestville, MD)
  • DL DaShawn Hand (Woodbridge, VA) – #1 player in the country
  • DL Malik McDowell (Detroit, MI)
  • DL Andrew Brown (Chesapeake, VA)
  • LB Carl Fuller (Detroit, MI)
  • LB Clifton Garrett (Joliet, IL) – Top 5 LB
  • LB Nile Sykes (Oak Park, IL)
  • Raekwon McMillen

LB Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, GA) – 5 Star LB

  • LB Dante Booker (Akron, OH) – #2 player in Ohio
  • LB Airius Moore (Beavercreek, OH)
  • DB Darius West (Lima, OH)
  • DB Damon Webb (Detroit, MI)
  • DB Nick Glass (Atlanta, GA)
  • DB Jabril Peppers (Paramus, NJ) – 5 star
  • DB Jalen Embry (Detroit, MI)
  • DB Quin Blanding (Virginia Beach, VA) – 5 star
  • ATH Jalen Hurd (Hendersonville, TN) – 5 star
  • ATH Alonzo Saxton (Columbus, OH)
  • ATH Jonathan Haden (Washington D.C.)
  • ATH Marshon Lattimore (Cleveland, OH) – #1 player in Ohio
  • ATH Myles Autry (Norcross, GA)
Look for some good news to come out after the weekend, and look ahead to December which due to our bowl ban, which will allow for a lot of extra time for the coaches to recruit vs the teams that will be preparing for bowl games.

Looks like things have already changed since noon. James Quick will take his official visit this weekend. Things still seem to be between us and Louisville here. This weekend is Meyer’s turn to really take the lead in this recruitment.

Marquez North is rumored to be taking a visit to Clemson instead of Ohio State this weekend.

Stay tuned to the comments here and we will update as needed.

Winning the way Urban is , even without the players he has at key areas at the moment is showing reqruits hes the real deal and this program isn’t in the tank as advertised last yr with the wheels seemingly off the wagon.

Knowing that Urban is still talking to kids already comitted to other programs is a strong sign he’s commited to getting the best kids regardless how certain individuals percieve that. I mean they are not with a program til that letter of intent is inked……OK Whiskey and Sparty……and I would expect the same from other coaches with our prospects,as Urban does. It makes his staff work harder.

Things are good again in Columbus…….
