Houston Launches
Believe it or not, there’s a place for a fullback in Urban Meyer’s offense.
Late Wednesday Night, Dublin Scioto’s William Houston announced via twitter that he had accepted an offer to be a part of Ohio State’s 2013 class as a “preferred walk-on”.
That designation means that he will pay his own way to Ohio State until he is awarded a scholarship by the staff; and won’t count against the Buckeyes’ award total, which is depleted as a part of the NCAA Sanctions. It is believed that he held a similar offer from Michigan; he chose Ohio State over a full scholarship offer from Bowling Green.
Houston is a “3 star” fullback, and is listed as the fifth best in the country by several recruiting services. The 6′ senior is listed at 235 pounds with a 4.46 forty yard dash time, and is an Ohio State legacy- he’s the son of former OSU fullback Willie Houston. He amassed over 1000 total yards this season, as well as 17 touchdowns.
You can check out his highlights after the jump-
Already a Buckeye, it’s great to have you officially a part of the family, William!

Really excited for this kid. I would like to see more Ohio kids earn offers for The Ohio State University football team. Something special about watching Ohio kids play for their state university.

I appreciate your information on this guy, if for no other reason than there is very little put out regarding walk-ons at Ohio State (preferred or otherwise). I know these guys rarely make the impact here that they do at lesser programs like Wisconsin (Maragos, Abbrederis, etc.), but every so often they DO pop up.

A 3* but 5th best in the country? Also 235 with 4.4 speed? What the hell is wrong with recruiting services?

Has the size and speed for sure. I’m sure they can use him. Great to keep a local kid.
