Jim, they do fairly constantly under perform in big games. But it’s tough to say they under perform in BOWL games. In the past decade they’ve ran over, through and around the ACC (and big east in early 2000s) to yield themselves an Orange or Peach/chickfila bowl appearance against a seemingly formidable opponent. Then we find out that since the Bowden glorydays, the ACC hasn’t been but a pipeline for OBrien award finalists. After a disappointing season though, I think ole BudBeam will have their squads ready for this one.. Hokies by 10

Jim, no question that you raise some good points about the technical school of Virginia, but keep in mind that Rutgers likely wants to meet Big Ten bowl performance expectations so that they fit in with their brethren.

I know I haven’t officially been picking any of these games with the rest of the gang, but I feel compelled to go against the grain here and jump on board with Rutgers.

I mean, when was the last time that Virginia Tech met expectations in a big game (ignoring for a moment that this is yet another terrible bowl game and not in any way a “big” game).

They constantly under perform even when they have some sort of motivations at the outset. In a game like this when they have absolutely no motivation whatsoever I’m not sure how anyone can expect them to do anything but suck in the most frustrating to watch way imaginable.
