Buckeye Athletics Update

Baseball

3/10-11 – Despite a pair of doubles by Pat Porter, Ohio State fell 3-1 last Saturday to Coastal Carolina. On Saturday, they beat the Chanticleers 3-2. Joe Ciamacco paced the Buckeyes by going 3 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored.

3/12 – Ohio State defeated Charleston Southern 6-3 on Tuesday, finishing up its road trip to South Carolina.  In the bottom of the third, Charleston Southern tied the game at 3-3, and it remained tied until the top of the eighth when the Buckeyes took the lead 5-3 after an RBI single from Greg Solomon.  Tim Wetzel pushed the lead to 6-3 in the top of the ninth with a solo home run, and the Buckeyes never looked back.

3/15-16 – Ohio State opened up its home schedule on Friday with a 4-1 victory over Bryant. Pat Porter led the Bucks going 2 for 4, finishing with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored.  On Saturday, the Buckeyes lost 3-2 to Bryant.  Aaron Gretz was 1 for 3 for Ohio State with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Men’s Hockey

3/15 – The Buckeyes fell 3-2 in the CCHA Tournament Quarterfinal opener to Ferris State on Friday evening.  In the third period, the Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead, and their goalie stopped all 10 Buckeye attempts. Brady Hjelle finished with 18 saves for the Bucks.

3/16 – The Buckeyes beat Ferris State in game two of the CCHA Tournament Quarterfinals 4-2 to force a game three in the series. Ryan Dzingel, Max McCormick, & Nick Oddo scored three straight goals to carry the Bucks to victory while goalie Brady Hjelle had 27 saves.

3/17 – Ohio State defeated Ferris State to advance to the Semifinals of the CCHA Tournament, where they will face Notre Dame.

Men’s Lacrosse

3/16 – No. 12 Ohio State defeated No. 9/11 Virginia 11-1o on Saturday. Goalie Greg Dutton made six saves for the Buckeyes in the victory.  Jesse King & Carter Brown each had two goals for the Bucks.

Men’s Tennis

3/12 – No. 9 Ohio State defeated No. 12 Pepperdine 4-1 on Tuesday. Devin McCarthy & Connor Smith sealed the victory for the Buckeyes with back to back wins after the Waves had cut the OSU lead to 4-2 after Ille Van Engelen had dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Finn Tearney.

Men’s Volleyball

3/16 – No. 9 Ohio State shut out No. 13 Penn State on Saturday (25-20, 25-17, 25-20).  The Buckeyes finished with 13 blocks and a .168 attack percentage.  Grayson Overman had a season-high 8 blocks for the Bucks.

Women’s Gymnastics

3/16 – No. 20 Ohio State fell to No. 14 Minnesota on Saturday 197.225-195.050.  Sarah Miller & Melanie Shaffer tied for second on the vault, both earning a 9.850.  Miller finished  third in the floor exercise with a 9.875. Shaffer took third in the all-around with a 39.175.

Women’s Lacrosse

3/16 – No. 15 Ohio State defeated Boston University 16-11 on Saturday.  Jackie Cifarelli had five points off of three goals for the Buckeyes as well as two assists to lead them to the win.

Softball

3/10 – The Buckeyes suffered an 8-0 loss to Iowa in 6 innings last Saturday. Later in the day, they defeated St. John’s 4-0.  Evelyn Carillo led the Buckeyes in their win by going 2 for 4 with an RBI.

3/13 – Ohio State lost 8-4 to George Washington on Wednesday. Sophomore Caitlin Conrad was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI for the Buckeyes.

3/14 – Ohio State got back in the win column with an 8-6 victory over Towson on Thursday.  Junior Melissa Rennie blasted a three run homer to lift the Buckeyes to victory.

3/15-16 – Ohio State was 2-0 on Saturday in the George Mason University Tournament on Friday.  They defeated Pittsburgh 4-0 to start the day and finished the day by defeating George Mason 10-0.  On Saturday, the Buckeyes continued their win streak at the tournament, defeating Canisius 8-0 and George Mason 5-2.

Women’s Tennis

3/15-16 – Ohio State posted a win and a loss in women’s tennis this weekend at the Blue-Gray Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama.  On Friday, they defeated Boise State 4-0 and on Saturday, they lost 4-2 to Tulane.

Women’s Track & Field

3/14-16 – The Ohio State Women’s Track & Field team opened its season at the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, SC this weekend.  Alexandria Johnson took first place in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 13.60.  Teammate Alexis Franklin won the 400m hurdles, posting a 59.28, the fastest time in the nation so far this season.

    Thanks for update, Janelle. All in all, a pretty good week for the Buckeyes.
