Asia Doss is a Buckeye!

Ohio State added more backcourt talent with the commitment of Michigan native, guard Asia Doss. The 5’7″ guard from Detroit Country Day School committed to Coach Kevin McGuff and the Buckeyes during her official visit this weekend. Per The Columbus Dispatch;

Doss attended last night’s Wisconsin game in Ohio Stadium with Makayla Waterman and Kathryn Westbeld of Kettering Fairmont High School and Alexa Hart of Columbus Africentric. Waterman and Hart already have given verbal commitments to new OSU coach Kevin McGuff

Asia, ranked the #1 player in Michigan, joins the 2014 recruiting class. Things, recruiting in this case, are certainly getting off to an energetic start under Coach McGuff. Here’s one evaluation:

Nike Nationals-July 2013: Confident, athletic floor leader with superb court awareness, body control to the rim; A distributor with a scorer’s mentality, range to the arc; has emerged into an elite-level game manager. (Olson)

These skills sound vaguely like those bought by Samantha Prahalis, so if I’m correct in this judgement, this is a significant addition to the Buckeye team.  Here is our newest Buckeye in action…  Welcome to the Buckeye family, Miss Doss!

    Nice writeup Ken and another great pickup by McGuff and his staff. Detroit Country Day is the same high school that former OSU women’s basketball player Kim Wilburn attended so they have produced good guards for us before. It will be interesting to see if they redshirt Doss since OSU will a number of guards available in 2014-2015 and that would help spread out the graduations of what is becoming an even more impressive recruiting class. Looks like Foster not signing any players for the upcoming season will actually end up benefiting the program in the long run because of how many scholarships McGuff now has for this class.

    Thanks, Charles. You are right, it appears that McGuff has taken perhaps a lemon and made some fine lemonade with the recruiting / scholarship situation.

    Great job of recruiting so far by McGuff. Now it will get interesting of how he puts the pieces together.
