The Lady Buckeyes volleyball team tasted defeat for the first time Sunday afternoon falling to No. 15 Michigan State 3-0.
The Spartans defeated No. 13 OSU 27-25, 25-23 and 25-22 to pull off the mild upset at St. John Arena.
Taylor Sandbothe led OSU (13-1, 1-1) with 12 kills and had a .524 attacking percentage. Kylie Randall chipped in 11 kills and attacked at a .529 rate. Kaitlyn Leary notched her seventh double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Boo Timko fired a final round 3-under 69 and had 6 birdies to help lead OSU from 10th to a tie for fourth with Purdue at the Windon Memorial in suburban Chicago.
Timko was 11th overall at 1-under 215, while OSU shot 11-over 875. Northwestern won with a 4-under 860.
The men’s soccer team opened Big 10 play with a 2-0 loss at Indiana Sunday. OSU is 2-5-2 overall.
The women’s soccer team saw its 5-match unbeaten streak end with a 1-0 home loss to Purdue Sunday. In a 3-1 win over the Lady Hoosiers Thursday Kayla Varner, Nichelle Prince, and Alexis Degler scored for OSU. The Buckeyes now sit 7-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.
The field hockey team lost 3-2 to Michigan State in the Big 10 opener on Saturday. Kaitlyn Wagner and Mona Frommhold had goals for the 3-6 Lady Buckeyes.
