FAU is coming off  a lackluster 12-17 (6-6) season, and is bringing an experienced yet relatively short team to Columbus. Their tallest player, Raven Doyle, is 6’2″, and a freshman. One nice feature of the Owls’ short Ohio swing, is it’s a mini-homecoming for freshman guard Aaliyah Dotson, a native of Massillon, OH.

Maleeka wants this..

The McGuff Era got off to a good start on Friday in Morgantown and returns to Columbu for their home debut. And, as Charles pointed put, above, this will be a good opportunity for Coach McGuff to tinker with on-floor player combinations with his available players.

This will be an excellent opportunity for OSU to work on their post/front court games. FAU simply does not have the size to match up with the Buckeyes. Even, for the most part, the Buckeye guards are bigger than their counterparts. However, this may be a true challenge to OSU’s backcourt, as FAU’s squad is “guard-heavy”. Take a look at their roster; they carry a lot of guards on their team. It’ll be interesting to see how Coach McGuff’s style of play squares up against a small, fast team. We’ll have to check in Sunday to find out.

Because of FAU’s lack of size, this shouldn’t be too much of a post game challenge, but running short-handed at the guard position, against a guard-heavy squad in FAU may be.

Speaking of ‘checking in’, if you have an opportunity to go to the game, please do so. The Owls are a long way from home, and last season averaged playing in front of about 900 fans per game. Even if we exceed last year’s average (3,500 or so per game) it may help tilt the atmosphere in OSU’s favor.

The game is this Sunday with a 2:00 PM EST start.
