The Fightin’ Blue Hens (5-5) had a good season in 2013, going 19-14 (13-5). Based on their schedule and performance so far this season, they appear to be on tracking to repeat this record. They average 79 points per game and have six players averaging at or near double digit scoring. They are led by 6’6” guard Devon Usher at 18.1 PPG, 6’2” guard Jarvis Threat at 17.6 PPG and senior 6’3” guard Kyle Anderson at 15.0 PPG. Leading rebounder for the Fightin’ Hens is 6’9″ forward Carl Baptiste with 7.7 per game

The #3 Buckeyes (10-0) are coming off drop-kicking the NDSU Bison 79-62 on Saturday. The Buckeyes were led by Lenzelle Smith Jr., again, (18 points, 8 rebounds), LaQuinton Ross (18 points, 8 rebounds) and Sam Thompson and Marc Loving with 12 points each. Shannon Scott had another business-as-usual night (4 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists, 3 steals). And Aaron Craft set the career record for assists. It was one of those nights.
And, here are your Ohio State Buckeyes:
|32||L. Smith Jr.||6’4″||G||13.4||53.7||48.9||75.0||5.4||1.8||1.3|
|33||A. Della Valle||6’5″||G||4.4||32.6||34.4||50.0||2.0||0.2||0.7|
The Fightin’ Hens will most likely field a 3G/2F lineup on Wednesday. Up to this point, the Delaware team has been the House of Usher, with 6’6″ guard Davon Usher 1st on the team in scoring, 2nd in rebounds and 2nd in assists. But, he’s had plenty of help, see table above. The wild card, in a sense, will be the play of senior guard Devon Saddler. Saddler has missed seven games this season due to suspension for the ubiquitous “Violation of team rules”. In the three games that he has played, he’s scored 23.3 points per game, while pulling in 3.3 rebounds per game. Saddler, shooting 58% from the field, is getting heavy playing time for Delaware. Based on how Coach Ross plans to play Saddler, he may or may not start, but with averaging 37 minutes per game, he’s a defacto starter for them.

The Hens’ offensive makeup will provide a good challenge for Craft/Scott/Smith. I think the Ross/Williams/Thompson/Loving rotation will provide a decisive edge foe the Buckeyes. As you can see from the above table, Delaware is a high-scoring offense, but a very porous defense. NDSU lit them up for 85 points on Monday night. I’d expect something similar on Wednesday. The other factor to note, is that the Hens aren’t quite as careful with the ball as Ohio State and A/T ratio indicates there is less ball movement involved when they do get off their shots, so back-side defense may be able to come across for any needed help.
