Pregame WBB Glance: Army Black Knights

Written December 13th, 2013 by Ken

After a heartbreaking loss on Sunday against the Gonzaga Zags, the Buckeyes host the Black Knights of Army Friday evening.  Right now, these are two teams moving in opposite directions. Ohio State (6-5) has lost three consecutive games. These have been against some very tough UConn, Maryland and Gonzaga teams, so they are soon do for a break in the schedule. Friday night may not may be that game. The Black Knights are (7-2) following their Wednesday against Penn. The loss snapped a 7 game win streak.

Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes are in a 3-game losing streak right now, dropping their record to 6-5. Granted the three losses have come against very strong opponents (UConn, Maryland, Gonzaga) and the team has played hard wire to wire, but three losses it is. I’ll be blunt here, the biggest disappointment is lack of playing time for Ashley Adams due to lack of mobility vis s vis her opponents.

And, here are your Ohio State Buckeyes:

Nbr Name Pos Hgt FG% 3Pt% FT% R/B A/G PPG
14 Ameryst Alston G 5’9″ .448 .536 .815 3.8 2.5 16
13 Cait Craft G 5’8″ .435 .382 .650 2.8  1.1 10.2
33 Ashley Adams C 6’5″ .443 .000 .889 4.5 1.8 7.1
25 Amy Scullion G 6’0″ .237 .333 .769 5.3 1.2 3
22 Darryce Moore C 6’2″ .494 .000 .706 7.3 1.5 10
23 Martina Ellerbe F 6’2″ .470 .222 .833 4.4 1.0 8.4
31 Raven Ferguson G 5’11″ .338 .200 .842 5.3 1.9 8.1
12 Maleeka Kynard G 5’7″ .244 .400 .706 1.5 1.3 4.8
21 Lisa Blair C 6’6″ .500 .000 .000 3.4 0.0 0.8
15 Aleksandra Dobranic C 6’4″ .200 .000 .500 1.2 0.6 1

This will some interesting match ups for Ohio State. Army protects the ball better, 15 turnovers versus 19 for Ohio State. Both teams average around 66 points per game, but OSU gives up 65 per game, while Army gives up 57. Granted, OSU has played tougher opponents so far, but I fell the Army defense will be a challenge. McGuff has to have his team, whatever the lineup, play very efficient offense.

The game is Friday December 13th at 7:00 PM EST in Value City Arena. IF you can’t make it to the game, it can be heard on radio 1460 AM.
