The Fighting Illini are in their 2nd year under Matt Bollant.  At this point last season, Illinois’ record (12-8, 5-3) was a bit better. Interestingly, last season Illinois lost to Purdue in the game preceding the Ohio State game, which the Illinois won. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Illinois averages 72 points per game on offense and gives up 71 per game. They are not a tall team, consequently they run a  4G/1F lineup. The guards are Amber Moore (5’11″), Ivory Crawford (5’10”), Alexis Smith (5’9″) and Sarah Hartwell (5’10”), while  Jacqui Grant (6’3”) is the forward.  Moore (15.7), Crawford (15.3) and Grant (13.4) lead the team in scoring, while Grant (6.1), Moore (5.8) and Crawford (5.7) lead the team in rebounding. Smith contributes 3.7 assists per game.

Ohio State University Buckeyes

The Buckeyes look to get back on the winning track after a loss to MSU where the bugaboos of so-so shooting and iffy ball handling contributed to their demise. Frankly, after a very disappointing outing against MSU, I question whether Ashley Adams can get her game on track against a much shorter Illini team.

Wrap up

Ohio State still has a couple of kinks to work out. I have no idea how this game will turn out, but as a fan, I’m going to tune Thursday night on the hope there is some improvement. I think that Ohio State can use their front court (Adams/Moore/Ellerbe) to overpower the Illini.

The game is scheduled for Thursday, tipping off at 7:00 PM EST in Value City Arena. Television coverage will be provided by BTDN, radio coverage by 1460 AM.
