What would “second Christmas” be for college football fans without at least one present under the tree?
With much of the Ohio State 2014 Class wrapped up well before mid-January, the only speculation today was on what color windbreaker Coach Meyer would wear during the afternoon press conference.
Sure, there were other things that could have changed the perspective, but none more exciting than a last minute addition of a top ranked student athlete… and one that was believe to have been a “lock” for Sparty for a while.
New Jersey defensive end Darius Slade was expected to sign with Michigan State today, but informed the folks in East Lansing that he wanted to visit Columbus before making a final decision. He had initially verballed to Nebraska, but “flipped” to Michigan State earlier this year.
The 6’5″, 235 pound senior from Montclair high school also held offers from Miami, West Virginia, and Penn State; it’s believed that his relationship with former Nittany Lion Larry Johnson solidified his commitment to Ohio State.
While “only” a three star by most recruiting services, Slade’s ability to get to the quarterback is undeniable- after the jump, you can see some of the 37 sacks he amassed over the past two seasons, as well as his ability to pressure an offensive gameplan:
That’s a pretty amazing “But wait, there’s more!!” added to a great NLOID for Ohio State.
We’re excited to have you as a part of The Dream14 class, Darius… Welcome to the Buckeye Family!
