I know QB recruiting is quite the hot topic right now, especially with Wimbush and Nunez off the board (it’s not over until signing day, wink…wink). I thought I would put 5 potential recruits on paper with highlights, and provide a small personal opinion write up on each recruit. Then, of course, I will try to predict who we get, and I will also give you who I like best. Well, no sense in wasting time, let’s get to it!
Gibson is a big, strong, athletic kid at 6’4, 195 lbs. When you watch his tape, you will see a very graceful young man when running with the ball. It’s easy to see why everyone wants this kid even knowing he is quarterback project. But, I see footwork, accuracy, and release issues (see lefty Pryor). Gibson is probably going to drag out his recruitment until signing day, and we all know that the BUCKS want him bad (almost too bad in my opinion). I think we need to take another one of the QB’s listed below if they are offered and want to commit.
This young man is more of a pocket passer. He has size at 6’6 and 215 lbs. Even with the OSU offer he holds, I just do not see this young man leaving the south. He has plenty of other offers in the SEC, and I think he is somewhat of a Florida lean and more of plan B recruit at this point. To me, he needs to work on his delivery and footwork to make it at the next level. If he visits this summer, then things could change but as we know, No visit = No Commit!
First thing I notice is the uniform colors, strikingly beautiful! He has good size at 6’2 and 195 lbs. This is a very elusive young man with very good pocket presence. I find him to have the intangibles needed at the quarterback position. However, he needs to work on his accuracy, especially in our offensive system. I really like Jones and would love to see him get an offer, but he just showed up on OSU’s radar, so we will see. By the way, I would not be disappointed with Jones committing tomorrow. Coach Herman is scheduled to watch him throw later this week.
This is another recruit new to the OSU quarterback search that does not have an offer yet but Herman will be watching him throw also later this week. Waller checks in at 6’3 and 190 lbs. The kid’s film jumps off the screen for me. He does a lot of things very, very well to include his accuracy. Other than putting some muscle on (Calling Coach Mick), this kid does not have a lot of flaws in my eyes. Coach Herman was scheduled to watch him throw yesterday, so by the time you read this, a new quarterback offer may already be out there.
Stevens is another name we have been hearing about more and more lately. He has good size at 6’4 and 200 lbs. His film showed me he has the intangibles you want in a quarterback. Watch the touch he puts on the ball….nice. It’s amazing to me how he makes some of his throws with the lower level release, but I’m sure that will get worked out at the next level. Though he would love a Buckeye offer, he has not received it as of yet.
I understand these highlights are just that, highlights. They don’t show you the bad play of these high school athletes, so keep that in the back of your mind when watching. Now, I understand everyone’s affliction in regards to Gibson, who I would say is probably the best overall athlete of the group, but that does not make you a college quarterback. To me, after watching all the tape, researching as much as possible, I really like Waller the best. It will be tough to pull him out of Cali, especially if Oregon offers him. But, I think that the coaches will take one of these QB’s and still hold out hope for Gibson on signing day.
Here is my ranking of these young quarterbacks and I would appreciate it if you would do the same with feedback.
