Weekly Recruiting Review: 6.24.14

Weekly Recruiting ReviewAs we sit here today, THE Ohio State Buckeyes have 10 commits and are looking good with top flight talent waiting in the wings.  Over a month ago I wrote an article about how we as fans should not be worried because Urban and Company would take care of this in short order. Feel better now?

The staff had a great week, and we should be excited as Buckeye fans. We now have commitments from:

Kevin Feder

Kevin Feder

As of right now, I do not think the staff could be happier with this 2015 class. This does not include the 2016 commitment of OL Tyler Gerald, which only helps bolster the future OL and can start recruiting other kids in the 2016 class.  To me, the best part of all of this is how Urban and Company have started putting that fence up around OHIO and the best kids.  Kevin Feder was the only out of state kids during this haul…..NICE!!!!

I guess the most common asked question is who is next?  Well, we know Justin Hilliard is announcing on July 2nd at his high school. I would be surprised if did not commit to the good guys on that day. When that happens I look for a few more to jump on board with the Buckeyes. I would think Damian Harris and Jashon Cornell would not be that far behind Hilliard when this happens. The relationship Hilliard has with current players (Give Big Kwon and Hubbard some love here) and staff is very favorable for the Buckeyes, and is the primary basis of my opinion. Let’s lock down another OHIO recruit and put one more post around our Buckeye Border.

Robert Washington

Robert Washington

Now, on to a kid with a lot of BUZZ surrounding him and his potential commitment to Ohio State. The young man is 2016 RB, who is listed at 5’10, 205 pounds: Robert Washington out of Southlake Christian Academy in Huntersville, North Carolina. He has close to 40 offers, which include Stanford, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Notre Dame, just to name a few. He has been quoted as saying that the staff would like him at least 230 or 240 pounds.  So, he could be the next Carlos Hyde. I’m not sure about you, but that would be just fine by me!!

Washington is planning to come out with a Top 15 in August, but he would not commit to Ohio State making that cut.  He apparently does not want to give anything away.  However, his relationship with Coach Meyer and Coach Drayton should have the Buckeyes in that top 15. I’m not convinced the Buckeyes land him, but I assure you it will not be for lack of effort by the staff.

Check out a highlight of Robert Washington here.

Just a couple of side notes:

It is being reported that Rashad Roundtree is giving Ohio State some serious consideration. That would be such a huge commit for the Buckeyes out of Georgia. It is a wonderful thing when the Buckeyes can own Ohio.  It is just as impressive, if not more impressive, when they get those recruits out of SEC territory! Urban and Company doing WORK!!!!

Ohio State jumped to the top of the leader board with class of 2016 DE Prince Sammons out of Cincinnati (Ohio) Hills Christian Academy.  He is listed at 6’8 and 260 pounds. Prince has been very cautious not name early leader but he had no issues putting Ohio State as his leader after his three days in Columbus this past week. I really believe that Larry Johnson is the difference here as their relationship seem to blossom while at camp. With only one year of organized football under his belt, his up size is tremendous.

It is also being speculated that Sam Hubbard will or has moved to TE. Notice in the picture that he is with the TE group and Coach Hinton, who happens to coach that position. It makes perfect sense when looking at the depth chart. I think this will be a positive and much needed move for the Buckeyes heading into 2015.

Then there is this, 5-Star DE Josh Sweat out of Chesapeake, Va  is scheduled to visit the Buckeyes on Wednesday, June 25th, 2014 (that’s right, TOMORROW). Sweat is listed at 6’5 and 240 pounds with a 40 time of 4.5. This young man is a football player and would be a big commit for Ohio State. Sweat is very athletic as you will see in the attached video. It’s not going to be easy to get this young man out of the SEC but getting him on campus is a really good start. (remember, it’s not what they say, it’s what they do)

I hope everyone is as excited as I am in regards to where we are going and the direction that we are heading. I am seeing the staff continuing to build a team that will compete for championships on a regular basis. The rest of the B1G better catch up or maybe just get out of the Buckeyes way!!!

Great article Mike, I think Kwon and Hubbard have been really helping out with recruiting. I haven’t really seen this in the last couple of years so it’s exciting to see kids in the program in the ears of these top kids.
