Ohio State realizes just how important recruiting and developing depth. And after years of linebacker issues tormenting Ohio State because of injuries, attrition, lack of development and a couple recruiting misses; the Buckeyes seem to be working hard at repairing the problem. Maybe over-repairing? I do not believe there is such a thing.
The great thing with the linebacker position is they can usually be moved to another position if better suited. They don’t have to stay at linebacker to contribute. If they have the frame to add size, they can move to a pass-rushing defensive end spot. If they are a “tweener” and fast enough, they can slide to safety.
If they’re versatile enough, they can move over to tight end (Sam Hubbard). And no matter what, they are almost always an asset on special teams, regardless of their position. In the 2015 class, the Buckeyes have already earned verbal commitments from Hilliard and from Dublin’s Nick Conner.
Benedictine’s Jerome Baker moved up his decision to this Friday, July 11th.
Could he be next?
Well, right now there is a considerable amount of rumors out there surrounding Baker and the University of Florida. This seems to happen to the Buckeyes every year. A recruit you and I would assume is a sure fire Buckeye, is now possibly heading elsewhere.
I would say the majority of time, the later the information, the less reliable it is. Sometimes I think it’s done on purpose by one camp or another just to help create suspense.
The crazy thing is when the insiders on these various premium websites are saying “it’s a coin flip” or “50/50” it tells me Baker is keeping things very much close to the vest at this point. He has done some interviews, mostly very generic and giving no information away.
Baker’s teammates don’t know/not saying, the coaches don’t seem to know, so I think right now a lot of what is out there is more guessing and looking into a crystal ball than anything.
I have read that Baker likes Florida DC D.J. Durkin as well as Tennessee assistant Mark Elder. I think the moving up of the time line to commit favors Ohio State though.
So while others may waiver, I am sticking with my gut all the way on this one and calling Baker to the Buckeyes!
*Disclaimer If he does commit to Florida by chance, he would be the #1 flip candidate.
It is definitely coming down to the wire in the recruiting battle of 2015 four-star Brentwood (Tenn.) Ravenwood wide receiver Van Jefferson.
Jefferson will be off the board by the end of the month if he commits on his birthday. July 26th is floating around as a possible announcement date.
It seems Ohio State is getting this visit at the right time in my opinion but the big deal is both of Jefferson’s parents are coming to campus with him.
That gives the staff an opportunity to seal the deal, even if an announcement doesn’t come right away.
If the parents are sold on this visit, I think its all Buckeyes in the end.

On a side note, I am very proud of my son who completed “Running With The Bulls” yesterday in Spain. Three of his Air Force brothers met him over there to enjoy the rush.
He is working very diligently on his bucket list as he purses his education to be a Dentist.
