Time for ESPN to show some Big Ten love?
When the new BCS poll comes out tomorrow afternoon, there will likely be three Big Ten teams in the Top 10. Yes, you read that correctly.
Prior to this weekend, Ohio State stood at #10, Iowa at #11, and Penn State at #13. Honorable, but still overlooked. But then came a weekend of unseen upsets….
- #7 Georgia Tech lost to unranked Georgia
- #9 Pitt lost to unranked West Virginia
- #12 Oklahoma State lost to unranked Oklahoma
Those three teams will all drop down deep, and will elevate the Buckeyes, Hawkeyes and Nittany Lions. Penn State might see a leapfrog from Virginia Tech, who buried Virginia, but that’s unlikely as they were far enough behind that PSU should see a cushion separating them from the Hokies.
So….will ESPN take notice that three Big Ten schools are in the BCS top 10? We doubt it….their heads are too far up the SEC’s ass to notice any other movement.
But what if the Big Ten holds down three of the top EIGHT slots in the BCS? It could happen….if Pitt upsets Cincinnati (#5), they’ll fall a handful of spots. Ditto Oregon (#7) if Oregon State knocks them off.
That would be quite interesting…we’ll be watching to see if any respect gets thrown our way.

Also, the Big Ten all but guaranteed themselves two BCS teams again this year. There were virtually four teams fighting for two at-large spots (Boise State, Iowa, PSU, and Okie State). Oklahoma State’s defeat means three teams fight for two spots…Boise State and one Big Ten school.
Not sure if that’s such a good thing, as it means our third-best school will be playing in a bowl designed for our second-best school, and that trend will continue throughout our 7-team bowl schedule. That exact scenario hurt us last season too.

Interesting stat of the day – there are no one-loss schools left in all of Division 1 college football.

Jeff that is just the thing……..the last couple yrs certain Big 10 teams have been matched up in top tier bowls with higher ranked foes sorta speaking( should they be there ?? thats for debate ). The masses and pundits might not love the Big 10 , but the Bowls do because certain teams draw revenue and fill seats.
Something tells me the Big 10 is gonna do well in Bowls this yr……regardless where and who it is up against.
The Big Ten isn’t going to get respect until it reverses the recent postseason trend. My research may be wrong but the Big Ten is 47% since 1998 and 40% since we won the NC in 2003. The Big Ten isn’t a good conference.
