The BBC Challenge – Regular season ends, playoffs begin!

Posted on December 08, 2009 by Jeff at The BBC

13 weeks ago, we began an experiment to see which major NCAA conference truly was the best. We did so by drafting 8 Fantasy Football teams of NFL players from teams in the Big Ten, Pac-10, SEC and Big 12. You can view the rosters, the scores, and the standings if you like.

Final standings, scores and whatever else will tell us exactly what we knew all along – it’s too close to call.

Overall points goes to the Pac-10

  • Pac-10 – 1,808 points
  • Big 10 – 1,746 points
  • SEC -1,671 points
  • Big 12 – 1,292 points

Overall record goes to the Big 10

  • Big Ten – 6 wins
  • Pac-10 – 5 wins
  • SEC – 2 wins
  • Big 12 – 0 wins

Highest-scoring single team goes to the SEC

  • SEC team #1 – 1,033 points
  • Pac-10 team #1 – 922 points
  • Big Ten team #2 – 911 points
  • Big Ten team #1 – 835 points
  • Pac-10 team #2 – 835 points
  • Big 12 team #2 – 659 points
  • SEC team #2 – 638 points
  • Big 12 team #1 – 633 points

Now the regular season has ended, and we have a three-week playoff system set up to determine which NCAA conference can make up the best NFL squad.

Week One of the playoffs starts Thursday night.  The two teams from each conference will play each other, and the semifinals will therefore have one team from each of our major conferences.

Here comes the twist…..

Teams are allowed to trade ANY PLAYER they want, provided they ONLY swap with the other team from their NCAA conference.  If Drew Brees gets traded for a season-long bench warmer, that’s OK.  The idea is to make one team in the conference as strong as possible, so we get some truly great matchups in the semifinals and the BBC Bowl.

Later today, we’ll discuss the rosters and the trades we’re making between squads.  Stay tuned.
