In a season that has been total chaos, the final week of the regular season did not disappoint. Key conference battles rounded out the year and set up seedings for their conference tournaments. More than half of the Top 25 lost at least one game during all the madness this past week. A couple of the mid-major conference tournaments have wrapped up already and the winners of those tournaments are just waiting for their March Madness fate. The Big East and The Big Ten continued to beat up on each other (thanks Michigan for choking in the last minute against Indiana). Despite all that, the two conferences combine for 11 of the Top 25 teams. Let’s take one last look at the Top 25 to see where everyone finished and prepare for the Madness that is……March Basketball!

Here’s a look at the Top 25 Week in Review:

It’s February and more importantly it’s national signing day for college football players and programs around the country. Take a break from following the updates of who faxed their letter of intent to whom and let’s hit some big topics. Who’s ready? Let’s rumble!

The Athletic O

Late Monday afternoon it was revealed that the Ohio State Athletic Department has revamped the Ohio State athletic crest. As with any type of change, opinions flew around Twitter and the blogosphere quickly and in large quantities.

It seems as though the overwhelming consensus is that the newly redesigned Athletic O is an atrocity. Despite there really only being one major difference between the old and new (the words Ohio State are filled in with black rather than being white and grey) people have gone off the ledge and are expecting the return of the Lord at any moment. Personally, I don’t get … [Read More]

A bye week can make for a lazy Saturday. Maybe you finish up some yard work before the weather really changes for the worst or maybe one last trip to do your favorite outdoor activities. For me, fun during a bye week is seeing the defending national champion aka the unbeatable aka the mighty aka the lock for the national championship game again from the otherworldly Southeastern Conference fall (at home!) to a mediocre Big 12 team with a freshman quarterback. I also enjoy thinking about the inevitable whipping that the Buckeyes are going to put on Wisconsin and the ensuing painful look on Bert Bielema’s face.

Rivalry

Maybe nobody has actually said it but it has been pretty apparent that Wisconsin has become the secondary rival to our Ohio State Buckeyes. The Badgers fill the “next level” rival spot for Ohio State that Penn State wishes it could be. … [Read More]

They could make a movie about Troy Smith’s journey at Ohio State. From an athlete who struggled to find a position on the team to a Heisman winning quarterback, the path Smith took was incredible, and there were many ups and downs along the way.

Troy’s transformation from an athlete into a quarterback was almost as drastic as his transformation from an immature college student into one of the best leaders to ever play at Ohio State.

Smith had a few run ins with trouble (including accepting illegal … [Read More]

A.J. Hawk was Ohio State football personified.

Hard working, hard hitting, tenacious, old school through and through but with surprising amounts of athleticism, Hawk was a joy to watch during his time in Columbus.

Every Saturday in the ‘Shoe and in stadiums around the Big Ten, you knew that A.J. Hawk was going to be all over the field and you knew that someone was going to feel the pain if they were unfortunate enough to have a close encounter with #47.<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-6047" title="A.J.
They say that safety is the ‘quarterback’ of the defense, and no player epitomized this concept more than Mike Doss. A three time All American at strong safety, Doss was the heart and soul of Ohio State’s defense for three years. Without a doubt, Doss’ emotional decision to return for his senior year was the spark that started the national championship run in 2002.

Doss had an uncanny ability to make a huge play just when the team needed it the most. Against Michigan in 2001, in the … [Read More]

Santonio Holmes was the complete package at receiver for the Buckeyes. He ran phenomenal routes that allowed him to consistently break free from even the best DBs. With the addition of game breaking speed, Holmes cemented himself as one of the top receiving threats in the country throughout his career with the Buckeyes.

I personally think 4th is a bit high in this countdown, but since Santonio was a combination of Anthony Gonzalez’s route running and Ted Ginn’s speed, I will go ahead and view this ranking as … [Read More]
