Notre Dame's take on expansion
Sounds like they are dead set on staying independant, and I could care less.

SI's Mandel: Evan Turner is POY
SI's Stewart Mandel, a great college football and basketball writer, explains today why he thinks Evan Turner should win Player of the Year this season. It's part of a debate with Andy Staples who says the award should go to John Wall of Kentucky. Mandel breaks down the statistical advantage that Turner has over Wall and everyone else in the country. Not only is he the best player this season, but Turner is putting up numbers not seen in college basketball in many years. He may not be the #1 pick in the NBA draft like Wall will be -- although he may be right behind -- but he's certainly had the better season statistically and is more valuable to his team. That makes him the clear favorite for POY.

USC, NCAA begin talks
The hearing will continue today, and through tomorrow. This means Mr. Henderson will make his decision very soon. Lets hope he makes the right one.
We're not going to actually hear anything for weeks, probably. But still, it's fun to see the Trojans sweat.

Smurf Turf no longer the only painted field
Who's next? OH! OH! OH! Can we paint our field Grey?
Evan Turner's historic season
SI.com's Andy Glockner says the Player of the Year debate shouldn't even be close; Evan Turner is having one of the best seasons in the modern history of college basketball. Turner has a chance to average 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists a game, which is a very rare feat in college basketball. Historical stats aren't readily available to check, but it's believed that Larry Bird at Indiana St. was the last player to accomplish that feat (and he didn't play major competition like Turner has).
Glockner also uses more sohpisticated stats to compare Turner to the other leading POY candidates -- John Wall, Damion James, and Wesley Johnson -- and he is clearly above all three. He says that basically Turner is a combination of the best traits of those three players: Johnson's shooting, Wall's dishing and James' rebounding.
While John Wall is having a great season and certainly deserves consideration for the award, if Turner continues to put up numbers like this then he should be the runaway winner as Player of the Year.
