Welcome to the Ides of September Weekend Wonderings. By now, we’re still celebrating the Buckeyes successful trip to California, and the Browns have put away the Ravens. So, please grab whatever you drink on a Sunday afternoon and. like CS&N, we’ll carry on.
Let’s see what’s going on at The James. We’ll start with this.
Researchers have discovered a novel mechanism responsible for the loss of a critical tumor-suppressor gene in rhabdomyosarcoma and other soft-tissue sarcomas, rare cancers that strike mainly children and often respond poorly to treatment. Their cause is largely unknown (emphasis mine). Knowledge of the mechanism could guide the development of more effective therapies for these malignancies..
Here’s the deal; soft-tissue sarcoma is a nasty killer, and unfortunately, it’s a predominantly pediatric disease. If the cause is unknown, it’s difficult, if not impossible to treat , obviously. This is where our research dollars come into play. If the cause can be determined, we’re a leg up on treatment and possibly prevention.
Having said that, some options provided by The James are listed in making donations for cancer research. Pass the word. Thanks. Hitting my personal sweet-spot of golf and cancer prevention/cure, here are what folks in Columbus, OH are doing.
