Old rusty and ratchet RFK Stadium gets to shine for its yearly hosting of the Military Bowl sponsored by something called Northrop Grumman. What the fine people at “NG” do is beyond me, but I’m sure they do their job well. (editor’s note- Northrop Grumman makes amazing military technology, some of which could quite possibly be aimed at us. We thank them for their service.)

Well, here we are, at the second biggest shopping day of the holiday and fiscal season. It’s kind of sad, really- all those unwanted or mis- purchased gifts being dragged back to the mall, where “Good Will To Men” is certainly in short supply.

That being said… how hard is it to follow a list? And what part of “bullets” looks like “marbles”… grumble grumble grumble. Given what’s in the theaters beginning yesterday, you’ve got two choices for today’s soundtrack.

Buckeye 411

Perfect Ten- Well, not perfect, but the Buckeyes find themselves at the ten spot in the AP poll following losses to Duke and Kansas. Indiana and Michigan both hold their spots above the Buckeyes, who find themselves the highest rated two loss team in the country.

Great Dane? News Monday was that the Bears had dropped former Buckeye Dane Sanzenbacher, who only amassed 2 catches this season
… [Read More]

Sure, there’s games on Monday, but the weekend has been so amazing that we just couldn’t wait to get back in the saddle for our reflections on the games of note. Plus, are we really all that excited about a game that’s all technical and stuff? I thought not. Obvious choice for this week’s soundtrack… happy Labor Day.

Whew… I’ve got to admit, I should have been working out with Coach Mick during the offseason. Saturday found me trying to knock the rust off of my college football regimen, although I can definitely say that I was well hydrated. I’m guessing that’s what happened during the livechat- I hadn’t prepared enough, and brought the jinxation. You can breathe a sigh of relief, though- when I caught the replay on Sunday, my presence made no difference in the outcome… Baby steps, right?

From the looks of things, a number of teams … [Read More]

Three weeks ago, I asked the question “Are we 11-0 already?”. At the time, we were actually 5-0, but were facing a string of 6 consecutive weak opponents.

I took criticism and praise for suggesting this. Around The Oval agreed with me immediately, while personal friends claimed I was tempting fate and daring it to strike back in the form of Michigan State’s 1998 defeat of the then-#1 Bucks.

I’d like to look back at that prognostication and see how I fared so far….

- Bowling Green – The Falcons are 3-2, but two of their wins came against teams ESPN had in their “Bottom 10″. And here’s two facts that will allow you to breathe easy this weeks – BG’s defense allows 30 points per game, and they lost to Kent State by a score of 38-3. This one’s going to be a walk in the park.

I said it in my last post, but now I’d like to discuss it….can we consider ourselves 11-0 right now?

At the beginning of the season, I marked down three games as our most difficult of the season….Texas, Iowa, and Michigan. We’ve won two of those games already (in VERY convincing fashion), and the final game will come during Week 12 on November 18th.

Technically and realistically, we’re 5-0 right now. But let’s look at the next 6 opponents;

- Michigan State – OK, now I … [Read More]

With all the hype over Ohio State’s quest for a National Championship in 2006, I spent some time today thinking about how it all relates to the 2002 season. And I’ve gotta tell you, there is very little comparison.

Sure, there’s the obvious similarities. But most of the time, we’ve gotta actually LOOK for the similarities. But you’ve really got to take a serious look back, and then you’ll understand that this year is NOTHING like ’02.

For example, we are actually EXPECTED to play for the title this year. Sure, there’s the naysayers and the pundits on ESPN who don’t give us much credit and desperately want to find moments of weakness. But in 2002, we were not at all expected to contend. As a matter of fact, we weren’t even ranked in the Top 10 at the start of the season. With each win, we did manage to … [Read More]
