The National Championship has been awarded. Recruits are making commitments. Excitement for the 2013 Buckeye football season is already full throttle. Let’s rumble!

Notre Lame and the championship debacle

Let me be the first to say it, I was wrong, just completely and utterly wrong. I thought that the Irish would have learned from the mistakes of the 06 Buckeyes and some of the other programs to challenge the SEC in the years since. I was wrong. They had to learn for themselves, stubborn to the end.

So to you, the great people of Buckeye Nation, I am sorry. I allowed my disdain and overall loathing for the Southeastern Conference to put my faith in one of the most heinous college football villains of all time, the Fighting Irish. This is a mistake I shall not repeat. Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me.

#1 Notre Dame (12-0 Independent) vs. #2 Alabama (12-1, 8-1 SEC)

Monday, January 7th, 8:30 EST, ESPN Television

It all comes down to this: The Fightin’ Irish attempting to “wake up the echoes” from the coma they have been in for nearly twenty years against Nick Saban and his SEC juggernaut, the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide. Historically this is a match-up for the ages. Two of the nations all-time premier programs, a north versus south pride war for all the marbles.

History: Given the recent history of the SEC some would consider this a surprise, but coming into the championship game Notre Dame holds a 5-1 all-time record vs the Crimson Tide in head to head match-ups. Perhaps the surprise is lessened when it is revealed that these two have not met on the gridiron since 1987, a 37-6 blowout by the Irish in South Bend. The only … [Read More]

Injury Updates- At the presser today, Coach Fickell mentioned that one of the reasons Braxton didn’t play on Saturday was that his prep was impacted somewhat by being dinged up last week. Today, though, several Buckeyes reported that Brax seemed healthy and ready to go. They also reported that Nathan Williams practiced healthy, so it would be difficult to imagine him missing out on Saturday. Jamaal Berry is back on the kick off return team,
… [Read More]

History

One of the oldest bowls, first played in 1935 at a high school stadium. The biggest news about this year’s game is the warnings regarding making a run to the border. Although, given what we know about Miami fans the warning may also be for the good people in Juarez. Consult our research department on this one if you want more bowl trivia, I ran out of time this week.

This will also be a resumption of the famous “Catholics vs Convicts” games from the 80′s… minus the awesome haircuts and so forth.

Miami Hurricanes

Al Golden has been thrown into a situation where he will coach a very talented team for one game, before the talent level drops off going into next year. Miami will … [Read More]

This is being written on September 19th… that’s right, “International Talk Like A Pirate Day“. So, who better to lead us into this weeks’ recap than everyone’s favorite buccaneer, Mike Leach:

Of course, to get the full effect of the day, you’ll need to use the Pirate Translator for this webpage. Avast!

Speaking of Pirates, in the first half East Carolina looked to be adding their name to the list of teams to beat Virginia Tech. Hey, Broncos- that “big win against Virginia Tech” sure is helping your national championship hopes, isn’t it? Well, there’s always that game against powerhouse Oregon State coming up.

Since we’re talking about “out of conference games”- We suspected that UConn had lost quite a bit of their fastball from last year (their DB coach is now in Georgia), and had those suspicions reinforced in Ann Arbor a couple of … [Read More]
