Granted, we didn’t really “learn” much in this practice with a scoreboard, but there were some things that stood out. We’ll continue to talk more about this in the coming days, but I’m excited about the pistol formation that we saw throughout the scrimmage… yet another angle to attack and destroy.

We all identified things that we were looking for- let’s see how our folks did. We’ll be using my elaborate and completely subjective scoring system which awards as follows: 2 points for a correct answer, 1 point for a partial, mockery for everything else.

• Spring Forward- Lots and lots of news this week in preparation for the Spring Game in Cincinnati. Again, the “move” is due to a) Renovations in The Shoe and b) Wanting to increase the Buckeye presence in the southeast corner of the state. Kerry Coombs can only do so much, you guys.

• Something Significant- As exciting as this season was, I’d be willing to bet that the most important game that Urban Meyer coached this year might just be the one involving military veterans just back from tours of duty. It’s part of  the “Tostitos Homecoming” event that will air on January 3rd, but Coach Meyer once again found himself across the field from Bobby Bowden. The event also included stars from the NFL and pop culture… a great event for a great cause.

• Major Awards- It’s the silly season for College Football, and sure enough America’s favorite collegiate popularity contest machine has decided to include some Buckeyes as a reward for the undefeated season. ESPN put Bradley Roby on it’s All American First Team. (FWIW, ESPN also tabbed TTUN’s Tyler Lewan to it’s All American list; you may remember Lewan from his impression of a turnstile against Ohio State’s freshmen defensive linemen.) The Associate Press had a little less love for Ohio State’s defense- Roby and Johnathan Hankins were on the second team, while John Simon was a third team award winner.

Ohio State got off to strong start, scoring the game’s first 9 points despite a couple miscues on offense.  After the 16 minute media timeout Cincinnati finally got their offense going as they went on a 7 to 2 run to cut the OSU lead to 11-7 with fourteen minutes to go in the half.  The Buckeyes didn’t let the Bearcats get any closer than that as they went on a 10 to 2 run over their own over the next three minutes to extend their lead to 21-9.  A short 5 to 2 mini-run by Cinci cut the lead back to single digits briefly … [Read More]
