Comin’ off a bye, The Chase continues…
We’ve reached the second bye week and the Buckeyes are on a roll. Coming off a 56-0 win at Purdue on Saturday, the Buckeyes are now closing in on the Leaders division championship and a spot in the Big Ten title game as well as keeping pace at the top of the BCS standings. We’ll look into all of it, play out some scenarios and laugh at TTUN. It’s Wednesday, let’s rumble!
Exorcising the demons
Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette on the campus of Purdue University has been somewhat of a house of horrors for the Buckeye football program over the last decade. Losses in 2000, 2004, 2009 and 2011 have made winning at Ross-Ade tougher for the Buckeyes than winning in Ann Arbor.
Those losses certainly did not go unnoticed by the players and especially Urban Meyer and his coaching staff. When warm-ups weren’t looking crisp on Saturday morning, Meyer told reporters he had strength coach Micky Maroti show some fire in the locker-room to wind the guys up just to be sure nobody was taking the day lightly or sleep walking.
When Doran Grant stepped in front of Boilermaker quarterback Danny Etling’s pass on the second play of the opening series of the game and returned it for a touchdown, the rout was officially on and all thoughts of an ambush or even a tight finish went out the door.
The Buckeyes were dominant racking up 640 total yards. We could see this building since around the mid point of the third quarter at Northwestern and it has blossomed into a point scoring machine that is multifaceted and hits you from all angles. Jeff Heurmann had a breakout performance while Nick Vannett also hit pay-dirt in the best day Ohio State tight ends have had since the mid 90′s. Carlos Hyde did what Carlos Hyde does, he ran over around and through people. Braxton Miller was great hitting on 19 of 23 attempts and four touchdowns. And to think: They didn’t even really try to get the ball deep down the field to Devin Smith, Evan Spencer or Philly Brown.
Brax is back and you’re gonna be in trouble
I said last week after his performance against Penn State that I felt Braxton Miller was finally officially all the way back to his normal self. Against Purdue he left no doubt I was correct in that assertion. He kept plays alive with his feet despite only being credited for one carry. He was masterful in deciding where to go with the ball and several of those passes were balls that are typically described as “lasers” or “ropes”. And when you thought you’d seen it all, he scrambled to the left, avoided some defenders and flipped a touchdown toss to Philly Brown all in a space about the size of a phone booth. All in the first half. Read More

Thanks for participating in last week’s “Fan Interact!” Make sure to join us after the game next week!
…this past Friday her new Hospice home health aid came over and when she entered the house, she saw a few Buckeye items around the room (the big cache and over-the-top Buckeye decorations are all down in my man cave), but it was enough for her to tell us that her ex-boyfriend played for Ohio State (Curtis Grant, of course). She said they broke up a few months before he left for OSU and she hadn’t really seen him since. However, she went on to say how great a guy he was and that he was the nicest guy she ever knew.
Well, she ended up taking a few pics of the man-cave and my mother-in-law, and texted them to Curtis. Yesterday, when she came by, she dialed a number on her cell phone and handed it to her. Of course, it was Curtis on the phone. They chatted for several minutes and then said goodbye. She beamed from ear to ear just from that call. She hasn’t stopped talking about it yet.
But within about an hour the doorbell rang. Curtis had called his mother and had her bring my MIL an autographed shirt and a program from Saturday night’s game. She also stayed to chat awhile. Even though she’s from the area, she had to drive about and hour and a half just to do this. Read More
This past weekend as the Buckeyes faced the Bulls, we started a new feature here at tBBC. Each week we will feature some hash-tags on twitter and feature your responses to those in a weekly article. While we are at it, we will feature a former Buckeye each week to give their two-cents worth as well and see how you stack up to their thoughts.
#BufTopPlay Braxton Miller 47 yard TD to Devin Smith. Great throw and great adjustment by Devin.
#BufOMVP Jordan Hall. He ran his butt off today. Big holes but also showed burst and agility.
#BufDMVP Noah Spence
#BufSTMVP Dontre Wilson. Great kick return!
#BufOUnsung Offensive Line. They were creating huge holes and giving Braxton (and Kenny) time to throw for the most part.
#BufDUnsung Ryan Shazier. Despite the injury he was still effective.
#BufMorePT Dontre Wilson, Jalin Marshall, Ezekiel Elliot, Warren Ball. Can’t wait to see what these guys can do!
This season, we’re trying to get you twice as much information as usual, with a Tuesday SBP following Monday’s presser and one just before gameday. Let’s go Bucks!!
Lots of news and notes to catch you up on before Walter White gets back to work.
Absent- Donovan Munger has missed most of camp thus far with some academic issues, and now has a medical (blood clot?) that will see him redshirting for this season. Najee Murray was also not present today, having been suspended for the team for at least the duration of training camp for a violation of team rules. Lots of speculation on this one, but at this point it’s only speculation.
We are the kings of the roundtable around here . . , errrr Knights maybe? We really enjoy a good roundtable and it’s high time we get caught up a bit on the off-season. Here is our latest installment of such with some help from a few “locals”.
We’d like to introduce you to Liz; she played in that band from up north, but her son is an I-dotter for TBDBITL and she couldn’t be happier or prouder (story to come from Charles later). Here’s her introduction.
To know my background is to really appreciate my “Buckeye-ness”. I don’t think it’s a secret to anyone that I reside in TSUN. I attended TSUN and was the first female tuba player in the MMB. When my son, Phil, was a junior in high school, we took a random visit to OSU. He loved it. Funny thing. All his life he wanted to go to M*ch*gan and march in their band. As a music major, you have to attend auditions to the colleges you wish to attend. To put it simply: they were awful to him at M*ch*gan. He was pretty beat up about it. Completely the opposite at his OSU audition. He was accepted into the School of Music and began attending tOSU in the fall of 2008. We’ve taken A LOT of flack for this, but OSU was where he was meant to be. His sophomore year, he made TBDBITL. Last season, he was Urban Meyer’s first i-dotter. While he has graduated from tOSU, he is attending one more semester to take advantage of his final year of eligibility in the band. This year, he dots SDSU and Purdue.
I love the games. I go to all of them…even though it’s a 4 hour drive for me on game day. 30 years ago, if you would have told me ANY of this…I would have thought you were nuts. Twitter handle is @osumarchingmom
Next is an old friend of ours from the twitterverse and no stranger to our roundtables, formerly known as CeMoBuckeye, he is simply Dave now. A web developer who has lived in central Missouri his entire life. That probably makes anyone wonder why he’s a Buckeyes fan over the local favorite, the Missouri Tigers. His answer to anyone is to show them this play: Read More
