Silver Bullet Points Minds The Madness

Written March 19th, 2014 by MaliBuckeye

Sorry, Iowa and Tennessee- the tournament don’t get rolling until tomorrow, no matter what you told people yesterday. So, we’ve got one more day of work before distraction takes us all… it’s madness, I say!

Come March, Foucalt knows of which he speaks

Buckeye 411

  • Welcome Back! The Scarlet and Gray returned tanned and rested from Spring Break, and hit the field today
  • Students Of The Game- Coach Meyer announced this week that the annual “student day” will be April 5th… no foolin’.
  • Spring Game Sprung? After an article this week positing that many coaches would prefer a 15th practice to a “spring game”, Coach Meyer today said that this wouldn’t be the case at Ohio State. He talked about the value that he has in watching his team perform “in front of a crowd”.
  • We Come Here To Play Football- According to Coach Meyer, Cardale Jones is a “changed man” and leading the first string offense as Braxton heals from his shoulder injury.
  • Effusive- High praise today for Darron Lee and Raekwon McMillan, and said that Taylor Decker has taken a real obvious leadership role this spring.
  • Running On Ez? Not as of yet, as Meyer points to others that are having decent spring practices thus far. Elliott may end up being “the guy”, but it’s great to hear that the stable is still full.
  • Bell’s Toll- Missing Vonn for the spring (knee) has impacted the secondary a bit, but Cam Burrows and Tyvis Powell have stepped up their game thus far
  • More Walking Wounded? One of the whispers from Tuesday is that redshirt freshman Jalin Marshall may have also been banged up a bit in practice as well… while no injury is a good one, thank goodness it’s spring ball, right?
  • Matta Wins Again! Great three-peat for Coach in the Infiniti Coaches’ Charity Challenge... and great win for the Ronald McDonald House.
  • The Bigger Picture- Remember, these are “students”, so another solid measure of success is brought to us by Sammy Silverman: Read More

Silver Bullet Points Needs A Spring Break

Written March 12th, 2014 by MaliBuckeye

Well, not really- it’s still sunny and eighty degrees here in California. But our Ohio (and TSUN and Buffalo) readers certainly could use a break from all of the snow and ice, and might enjoy a trip to some warmer climes. So, perhaps we can celebrate Ohio State’s break with a soundtrack that will encourage and enlighten your Winter Wednesday.

Sun, Surf, Scarlet And Gray

Buckeye 411

  • Meaningful Awards- For the first time in a long time, no Buckeyes were named to either the coaches’ or media’s All B1G Team for men’s shootyhoops this year, which pretty much sums up what most of us have observed this season. Even All-Swoon leader Aaron Craft was second team with the press and third team with the coaches, where he joined LaQuinton Ross as well. Lenzelle was on the “sportsmanship” list, so that’s nice.
  • Getting Defensive- Senior Craft, though, was awarded his second “B1G Defensive Player of the Year” accolades on Monday… perhaps that’s why the coaches didn’t have him on the first or second teams, as he spent much of the year making their players struggle to bring the ball upcourt.
  • Welcome Home- Donte wHitner, who signed with the Cleveland Browns as a part of Tuesday’s “NFL Free Agent Frenzy”. A Glenville graduate, it will be great to see another Buckeye defending the home turf…
  • Getting Paid- Whitner wasn’t the only former Buck on the move, as safety Malcolm Jenkins signed a deal to play with Philadelphia next season as well. Jake Ballard also inked a one year deal with the Arizona Cardinals, who hope to find a quarterback to throw him the damn ball.
  • It May Be Winter- But the Buckeyes are out on the links… rough life.
  • Pay It Forward- Our favorite Buckeye from the St. Louis Area spent some time following Woody’s mantra this past week, with a visit to the Children’s Hospital to say “hello” to some young fans.  Great kid, that EzE…
  • Never EVER Too Young- You’ve got to raise your kids well, so having them understand The Rivalry from an up-close and personal perspective is crucial. Today was a step in the right direction, as the rosters for the Ohio-TSUN all star showdown was released… and the mitten state doesn’t stand a chance.
  • Fly On The Wall- That’s what I’d have loved to have been at last week’s meeting of the offensive minds in Columbus, involving Tom Hermann, Chad Morris, and Jake Spavital from aTm. That’s a lot of firepower…
  • Well, Duh- Archie Griffin, greatest Buckeye football player ever.
  • Laying The Foundation- If there was any doubt that the NFL takes Ohio State’s program seriously, last week’s “Career Day” certainly put that to rest. Here’s a reminder from Sammy Silverman: Read More

What Do You Want to See on Saturday? Wisconsin

Written September 27th, 2013 by Gary Russell II

Wisconsin week brings us a building rivalry, so let’s see what our experts are hoping to see happen:

MaliBuckeye

He’s full of Big Plays….

1) No False Starts – Seems to work when I ask for it, so here we go.

2) Curtis Grant – Coach Meyer called him out on Monday and Tuesday; this game is primed for him.

3) Aerial Assault – Last year, Wisconsin cheated their safeties into the box and dared Ohio State to beat them over the top. This year, we have the weapons to do so… make them pay.

4) Speed Kills – Even Wisconsin’s Coach Anderson highlighted how fast Ohio State is on both sides of the ball. This is where they show why speed matters

5) More ZKL – For a lot of reasons… get the kid the rock.

Ken

1) Another fast start - OSU needs to come out fast, as we usually do. Saturday night’s crowd should be raucous; give the crowd even more reason to get into the game.

2) Sure tackling - Wisky running backs are averaging 8 YPC. This cannot be allowed on Saturday.

3) Solid pass defense - Jared Abbrederis is averaging 16 yards per reception and one third of team receptions. We need to blanket this guy, and blanket their QB Joel Stave.

4) Offensive Balance - The Buckeyes have shown they can run and pass fairly effectively. We need this to keep Wisconsin defense from loading up against the run.

5) Special Teams/Defensive TD - I’ll take either/or, but would prefer to have one of each. We’ve done well with those against Wisky in the past.

tBBC Game Preview: Florida A&M Rattlers

Written September 19th, 2013 by Ken

famu

The Buckeyes return home from a successful Left Coast trip to play an FCS opponent out of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), the Rattlers of Florida A&M University (FAMU).  The Buckeyes (3-0) are coming off an exciting, yet convincing, win over Cali-Berkeley (52-34), while the Rattlers (1-2) lost to Samford (27-20).

This is OSU’s last game before Conference play begins, so it will be a good opportunity to take care of a few loose ends. False starts and tackling techniques come to mind. Even though, to Jason’s chagrin, this is a noon start, the weather forecast is for low 70’s, cloudy and 30% chance of rain. This is no time to “go Cal” and not show up until well into the game. We’re fortunate to have a really good football team; be there to support them.

Ohio State on Offense

This will be a good game to get a couple quarterbacks some playing time before conference play; Braxton Miller and Cardale Jones. I think that Ken Guiton has proved his capability and reliability. Braxton probably needs some fine tuning after missing the last two games, and Cardale needs some ‘live fire’ experience, just in case.

guapo

He’s baaaack..

Oh, and the Buckeyes get starting (last year, anyway) running back Carlos Hyde back, although how much playing time he gets is up in the air. I anticipate Dontre Wilson to get more involved with the offense, and possibly even some Ezekiel Elliot.  However, the bulk of the non-Jordan Hall carries will be Hyde’s

FAMU’s defense is giving up 321 yards per game, good for 70th in the country if they were FBS. I think that pending too much experimentation on Urban’s part, OSU will find this defense a bit less challenging than last week. The bright spot for FAMU is that against Samford, they did come up with 2 pick-6’s.

tBBC Fans Interact: SDSU

Written September 11th, 2013 by WVaBuckeye
Come out and meet some former Buckeyes and boo the refs

Pay It Forward

Week two of tBBC Fans Interact, and what a difference a week makes! It appears the Buckeyes will have many choices for their picks each week and the ” ‘ol right hander” made it real easy for most.

Huge shout-out and thank you to Roy Hall for being our special guest this week. One of my favorite charities to help is his DRIVEN Foundation, so please go help them out, and become a part of the #DRIVENOffensiveLine like me. Gary and I and a few of our friends will be officiating “Cancer is ScUM” on October 5th at Bloom Carroll high school. Several former Buckeyes will be playing, so it’s a great opportunity to meet them and boo the ref’s!
Their impact on communities is becoming boundless. They recently lost a benefactor of one of their events, Ballin’ for Boston Charity Basketball, four-year-old Boston passed away a week after the event. His passing has effected many people and reminds us to keep going. Do your part to help whoever you can, whenever you can. DRIVEN is making a profound impact on the community and you can help, it’s that easy. Be sure to vote for the in the Miles of Smiles campaign as well.
Lets see what Roy had to say!

#SDSUTopPlay We knew Braxton ”#Xbrax360″ Miller could run, but watching KG bolt to the end-zone on a 44 yrds run was Saturday’s Top play!

#SDSUOMVP Kenny Guiton’s performance was smooth, calm and confidence building! I don’t call him PEANUT BUTTER BABY BOTTOM for nothing! #PBBB

#SDSUFAV PlayGreat receivers are judged by how they catch the ball in traffic! Phily Brown made a spectacular catch in the 3rd qtr over two defenders!

#SDSUDMVP I don’t watch the defensive line as much as I should but this week Michael Bennett had a monster game!

#SDSUSTMVP Drew Basil! Why? He was 6/6 on PAT’s and had excellent placement on kickoffs. Plus, 2 weeks ago he blocked for KG on a 2-point play! #VERSATILITY

#SDSUOUnsung Jack Mewhort helped keep Kenny G off of his back this week and because of the great protection allowed KG to lead us to victory.

#SDSUDUnsung Leadership can’t always be seen but having Bradley roby on the field added a much needed edge and attitude to the defense!

#SDSUMorePT I would like to see Chris Fields get a few more touches this week. 2 TD’s in the opener and 0 catches last week.

Big thank you to all who participated this week, we look forward to tBBC Fans Interact growing into a full time occurrence. Thanks to you we will use it for many Buckeye events!!! How close did our fans come to Roy’s choices? Read More

tBBC Off-Season Football Roundtable

Written July 30th, 2013 by WVaBuckeye

We are the kings of the roundtable around here . . , errrr Knights maybe? We really enjoy a good roundtable and it’s high time we get caught up a bit on the off-season. Here is our latest installment of such with some help from a few “locals”.

FANS

We’d like to introduce you to Liz; she played in that band from up north, but her son is an I-dotter for TBDBITL and she couldn’t be happier or prouder (story to come from Charles later). Here’s her introduction.

To know my background is to really appreciate my “Buckeye-ness”.  I don’t think it’s a secret to anyone that I reside in TSUN.  I attended TSUN and was the first female tuba player in the MMB.  When my son, Phil, was a junior in high school, we took a random visit to OSU.  He loved it.  Funny thing.  All his life he wanted to go to M*ch*gan and march in their band.  As a music major, you have to attend auditions to the colleges you wish to attend.  To put it simply:  they were awful to him at M*ch*gan.  He was pretty beat up about it.  Completely the opposite at his OSU audition.  He was accepted into the School of Music and began attending tOSU in the fall of 2008.  We’ve taken A LOT of flack for this, but OSU was where he was meant to be.  His sophomore year, he made TBDBITL.  Last season, he was Urban Meyer’s first i-dotter.  While he has graduated from tOSU, he is attending one more semester to take advantage of his final year of eligibility in the band.  This year, he dots SDSU and Purdue.

I love the games.  I go to all of them…even though it’s a 4 hour drive for me on game day.  30 years ago, if you would have told me ANY of this…I would have thought you were nuts. Twitter handle is @osumarchingmom

Next is an old friend of ours from the twitterverse and no stranger to our roundtables, formerly known as CeMoBuckeye, he is simply Dave now. A web developer who has lived in central Missouri his entire life.  That probably makes anyone wonder why he’s a Buckeyes fan over the local favorite, the Missouri Tigers.  His answer to anyone is to show them this play:  Read More
