The Ohio State women’s soccer team defeated Illinois 2-1 on Sunday afternoon (11/4) to win the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes, seeded second, defeated the fifth-seeded Illini to bring back the third conference tournament title in program history. The team finished 16-4-1 on the season.
A physical back and forth first half had the game scoreless at halftime. In the second half, Tiffany Cameron scored her 19th goal of the season to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead. She scored the second goal for her team in the 69th minute off a pass from teammate Michela Paradiso. Illinois cut the lead to 2-1 around the 80th minute after a goal by Allie Osoba, but they could not manage to tie it up.
Ohio State led the Illini in shots 19-7, led by Cameron’s six shots. She was named the Offensive Player of the Tournament while teammate and Ohio State goalkeeper Jillian McVicker was named Defensive Player of the Tournament.
To reach the championship game, the Buckeyes defeated Nebraska in the first round 1-0 and Michigan in the second round 2-1. Read More
Spotlight on: Men’s Soccer
10/23/2012 Despite a valiant effort, the Ohio State men’s soccer team was edged on Tuesday night by #3 Akron by a score of 1-0 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in front of 2,125 fans.
Reinaldo Brenes scored the game’s only goal in the 52nd minute off a rebound from a shot missed by teammate Wil Trapp.
The Zips edged the Buckeyes 18-14 in shots, and Ohio State was led by Chris Gomez’s three shots. The loss dropped the Buckeyes to 6-9-1 on the season.
Ohio State will be back in action in Columbus on Sunday, November 4th against Wisconsin for Senior Day after playing at Penn State on October 28th.

Spotlight On: Ohio State Field Hockey, 10/19/2012 vs No. 7 Penn State
The No. 21 Ohio State Buckeyes fell 3-0 to the No. 7 Nittany Lions on a windy and rainy afternoon on Friday at Buckeye Varsity Field on Senior Day. Penn State had a 2-0 advantage at halftime after corners from Kelsey Amy with about six and a half minutes to go in the half, and then a little while later from Brittany Grzywacz.
In the second half, at 49:14, Penn State added to its lead when Amy scored her second goal off a corner from the left side of the circle. The Lions outshot the Buckeyes 21-8, including 12-5 in penalty corners.
Ohio State honored five seniors before the start of the game on Friday afternoon including Paula Pastor-Pitarque, Laura Napolitano, Danica Deckard, and Berta Queralt. The class has collected 42 wins and was apart of the 2010 Big Ten Champion and Final Four team.

Spotlight on: Ohio State Women’s Volleyball – 10/12 vs Indiana
The No. 19 Buckeyes defeated Indiana 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-17) on Friday night, coming back after dropping the first set to the Hoosiers. Senior Emily Danks led the way for Ohio State, finishing with 18 kills, 7 digs, and 3 block assists. Mari Hole notched her ninth double-double of the year for the Bucks, finishing with 15 kills and 15 digs, while classmate Mariah Booth had nine kills and five blocks. Junior Kaitlyn Leary added 10 kills.
In the first set, Indiana took an 8-6 lead after two three-point runs. The Buckeyes tied it up before committing two errors to give the lead back to Indiana at 14-12. Ohio State fought back and eventually took a 19-17 lead, but it did not last. The Hoosiers battled and the set eventually ended up locked at 23 before they came up with back-to-back blocks to win it.
In the second set, a Booth kill ignited run by the Buckeyes that cut the Hoosier lead to one at 14-13. Eventually, the Buckeyes took the lead 21-19 after a service ace by Taylor Sherwin. The set was secured for the Buckeyes after a kill by freshman Andrea Kacsits.
The Buckeyes took a 7-3 lead in the third set, and a 6-1 run led them to a 17-7 advantage. Two kills in a row from Hole gave Ohio State a 24-12 lead, and the set was won (25-12) after a block by Hole/Booth.
In the fourth set, Hole & Leary blocks as well as a Booth/Danks block gave the Buckeyes a 14-8 advantage. The Hoosiers fought back and cut the Buckeye lead to three at 18-15, but they got no closer. An 8-2 run by Ohio State gave them the set and the match.

Men’s Soccer
Last Sunday (9/3), TSUN topped the Buckeyes in two overtimes by a score of 3-2 last Sunday, dropping to 4-6-1 on the season and 0-2-0 in the Big Ten. Chris Hegngi, last year’s Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, paced Ohio State with five shots and scoring his first goal of the year. After going into halftime tied at one, the Wolverines gave Ohio State a 2-1 lead off an own goal, but tied it at 2 seconds later. After missed opportunities by both teams in the first overtime, UM finally capitalized on a penalty kick to win the game in the second OT.
Women’s Soccer
Ohio State tied Wisconsin last Sunday (9/30) 0-0 in two overtimes at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium last Sunday, leaving the Buckeyes with a 7-4-1 overall record and a 2-2-1 Big Ten record. Men’s Soccer
The Buckeyes dropped their Big Ten opener to No. 15 Indiana 2-0 on 9/23. Andrew Oliver gave Indiana a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of play, and then Eriq Zavaleta converted a penalty kick in the second half to give them their second goal. The Buckeyes outshot the Hoosiers 16-10 in total shots while being edged 7-6 in corner kicks. On 9/26, Ohio State got back into the win column with a 4-1 win over Butler. Austin McAnena had a trick for the Buckeyes, the first for the team since 2005. The Buckeyes finished with an 11-10 overall shot advantage but were beat in corner kicks by the Bulldogs 8-3.
Men’s Cross Country
The Buckeyes finished 13th at the 8k Notre Dame Invitational on 9/28 after finishing with a team score of 296. Tulsa captured the team crown, finishing with 104 points. Ohio State senior Donny Roys led the Buckeyes, finishing 25th with a time of 24:14, followed by sophomore Josh Sabo who finished 38th with a time of 24:23.
Women’s Cross Country
Ohio State finished 11th with a team score of 249 at the 8k Notre Dame Invitational on 9/28. Five of the Buckeyes finished with personal best times, including junior Meredith Wagner, who finished 11th overall with a time of 16:54. Men’s Soccer
9/18 – The Buckeyes fell to Louisville 4-0 at Cardinal Park on Tuesday night, dropping to a 3-4 record. The Cardinals got goals from four different players, and took the lead in the 20th minute when Marlon Hairston scored. The Buckeyes were outshot 15-6 in total shots and 9-2 in shots on goal.

Men’s Golf
9/16 – After tallying a final day score of 299 at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate tournament, the Buckeyes finished third. Tee-K Kelly led Ohio State, finishing fourth with a 3-under 210. Boom Timko also did well for the Buckeyes, finishing fifth overall. Illinois finished with a final score of 3-over 855 to win the team trophy.
Women’s Soccer
9/16 – Tiffany Cameron’s overtime goal lifted the Buckeyes over Minnesota 2-1 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Minnesota took a 1-0 lead after a goal in the 11th minute by Katie Thyken, and the Golden Gophers took the lead into the half. After the intermission, after several missed opportunities, Marisa Wolf finally got the Buckeyes on the board to tie the game at 1. Then Cameron scored her fifth game-winning goal of the season in the 99th minute to give the Buckeyes the lead and the win. For the game, the Gophers outshot the Buckeyes 18-11, including 9-6 in shots on goal.
9/21 – The Buckeyes dropped a 1-0 decision at Illinois on Friday night. After a scoreless first half that was delayed because of weather, the Illini had outshot the Buckeyes 12-8. In the second half, Taylore Peterson gave Illinois the lead when she converted an assist from teammate Kassidy Brown. Lauren Granberg led the Buckeyes in shots, tallying five. Read More

Men’s Soccer
9/9 – Despite being out-shot 26-11, the Buckeyes got their first road win of the year by beating San Diego State 2-1. Louie Berra led Ohio State to the victory with a goal and an assist at the SDSU Sports Deck. Their first goal came from Joshua Bretto late in the first half to tie the game at one.
9/14 – Ohio State defeated DePaul 2-1 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Friday night. Goals for the Buckeyes came from Louie Berra and Kenny Cunningham, and goalkeeper Alex Wimmer finished with eight saves. DePaul finished with a 19-15 advantage in shots, while both teams finished in corners at 7 each.
Women’s Soccer
9/9 – The Buckeyes recorded their fifth shut out in a row by beating Duquesne 3-0 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Ohio State took the lead in the thirteenth minute when Tiffany Cameron managed to get the ball past Duquesne goalkeeper Devon Tabata. The Buckeyes scored again less than sixty seconds later when Lauren Granberg converted a Cameron pass. Cameron scored again in the 35 minute on a pass from Danica Wu to give Ohio State a 3-0 lead. The Buckeyes finished with a 21-7 shot advantage.
Field Hockey
9/9 – The No. 23 Buckeyes fell to Miami (OH) 2-1 in their home opener at Buckeye Varsity Field. Senior forward Berta Queralt scored the only goal for Ohio State at 7:07 in the first half. Twenty-five minutes later, Emily Gruesser scored for the RedHawks and tied the game at one. Demi Wideman scored the winning goal in the second half for Miami. Ohio State finished with an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners, but could not find the goal to tie the game.
Women’s Volleyball
9/14 – The No. 21 Buckeyes fell to No. 18 Pepperdine in a three set loss on Friday in the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup. Senior Mari Hole finished with 11 kills and 10 digs in the match for Ohio State while teammate Emily Danks finished with 10 kills and 2 service aces. Jazmine Orozco and Katie Messing led the way for Pepperdine, finishing with 13 kills each. Orozco also had 14 digs.
9/15 – The No. 21 Buckeyes lost 3-1 in a match against Florida State in the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup in Houston. Mari Hole, Mariah Booth, and Emily Danks led Ohio State, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the No. 11 Seminoles. Yildirim Fatma finished with 20 kills for FSU while teammate Olivera Medic added 13 and 14 digs. Hole had 15 kills for Ohio State while Booth and Danks finished with 11 and 10 respectively. Later in the day, the Buckeyes defeated Houston 3-1. Booth was named to the All-Tournament team, after finishing with 17 kills in the match. Hole finished the match with 10 kills and 11 digs.
Golf
9/15 – Sophomore Boo Timko and freshman Tee-K Kelly led the Buckeyes to finish in first after day one of the Wolf Run Intercollegiate tournament. Timko finished the day tied for first, finished 7-under 135. Kelly finished tied for fight with 2-under 140. The third round of the tournament was being played today (9/16).
