Top 25: The Week in Review & The Week Ahead

The revolving door that is known as the Top 25 continued to revolve this week. 4 of the 5 Top 5 teams all loss, including Kansas who has now lost three in a row. In addition to the top 5 teams laying an egg, 14 of the 25 teams lost at least one game this week, with 5 of them not even picking up a single win. All was not bad though in the Top 25 world. There were several great games and several overtime games, including a stunning 5 overtime in the Big East. The Miami Hurricanes continued to come on like gang-busters and very well could be in the Top 5 when all is said is done with the polls this week. Picks for the Weak: Week 9

The picks return to the BBC after the interminable bye-week!

The last time we saw our intrepid pickers, Eric had the lead over Mali by two games. During week 6, our players came out with the following records:
Joe D: 4-6, Mali: 7-3, Jim: 5-5, Joe L: 8-2, Eric: 5-5, Chris: 6-4, Robby: 8-2

With his 8-2 record to tie for the lead in the week, Joe L succeeded in surpassing both Eric and Mali for the overall lead heading into the final leg of the season. The totals stand thus:
Joe L: 38-21, Eric: 37-22, Mali: 37-22, Jim: 33-26, Joe D: 31-28, Chris: 17-13, Robby: 13-7

It should be an exciting final couple of weeks!

Picks For The Weak: Week 6

I’m pretty sure that was the worst week of College Football picks for this crew in the five years of it’s existence. Maybe I’m over-exaggerating, but 75% of those who help me out with our Picks were at 0-5 as we headed into the evening on Saturday. Thanks to the Mustangs, I picked up some ground on everyone by a game! Beating those Horned Frogs like there’s no poison in their ummmm.. Bite.

It was Baylor this week that gave everyone a loss on their record. Thanks ESPN and RGIII for selling the hype on the clearance shelf. It was me digging in and looking for legendary 5 buck team.

Truth is Baylor still isn’t elite.

I’m pretty certain the answer is “no”, but let’s look at each individual point anyway just to be sure.

Mali

Brax Attack. Well, he saw the field. That’s about all we can say.

Jacory Harris’ New Name. Jacory Harris played better than last season, though he did hand the ball over a few times – and nearly put OSU back in the game in the end.

Florida Pride. Hyde and Sabino played tough, does that count?

Game Commentary. The commentary was absolutely focused on the game. At some point, though, I think Buckeye fans almost would have rather been thinking about the offseason.

No False Starts. Keep asking Mali.

Miami smothers Ohio State 24-6

The Buckeyes took to the road for the first time this season to visit Miami at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida. From the moment the teams took the field, Miami was clearly the better football team, and demonstrated it by shutting Ohio State’s offense down nearly completely on route to a 24-6 victory. Ohio State’s only successful offensive players were Jordan Hall with 14 carries for 87 yards and Carlos Hyde with 12 carries for 54 yards. Neither quarterback had a completion percentage beyond 20% on the game.

The game started with the Buckeyes in possession of the football and Joe Bauserman under center. It’s also worth noting that despite Jordan Hall’s return from suspension the Bucks started out handing the ball off to Carlos Hyde. Clearly the coaches were sufficiently happy with the work Carlos has done this season to warrant him continuing to start for this team. … [Read More]

What Do You Want To See On Saturday? Miami Edition

It’s the first official test of the season for the young Buckeyes, and they get an infusion of some of their best talent with the return of Jordan Hall, Travis Howard, and Corey “Pittsburgh” Brown to the field. Let’s see what the guys wanted for tomorrow.

Mali

Brax Attack. It will mean that a) he’s healthy, b) we’re in a position to play him (up on the scoreboard?) c) Miami has to figure out what to do next… plus, it’ll keep him further away from those pesky headsets.

Jacory Harris’ New Name. I’d be ok with “Ja-five-ry”… he’ll have almost an extra week to prepare, I’d like for him to visit Howard Island at least once.
