With the Ohio State softball team’s season coming to end it put the baseball team on center stage this past week. Unfortunately the men weren’t able to showcase ther talents very long after dropping the first two of the of the B1G Tournament bringing their rollercoaster season to an end. Ohio State opened up the tournament on Wednesday against host Nebraska with a 7-6 loss. The Buckeyes followed that up with a 6-5 loss to 3-seed Illinois on Thursday. Let’s take a look at the highlights:
5/21: OSU 6, Nebraska 7
Things looked good early for the Buckeyes as they jumped out to a big lead in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Aaron Getz knocked in two runs with a double down the left field line. Craig Nennig then followed up a with a successful squeeze bunt moving the score to 3-0. After a wild pitch, RBI singles by Ronnie Dawson and Troy Kuhn made the score 6-0 in favor of the Bucks.
Nebraska then cut the lead in half in the fifth. Back to back singles by Ben Miller and Steven Reveles started the inning. An RBI double by Jake Placzek made the score 6-1. Miller was able to score on a close play at the plate when Michael Pritchard grounded back to the mound putting the score at 6-2. A shot past Ohio State shortstop Nennig by Pat Kelly scored Placzek and leaving the Cornhuskers trailing 6-3 after five. Read More
With the softball team ending the season and unable to make the NCAA tournament, our focus shifts to the baseball team. This was the final week of regular season action before heading into the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes played four games this week and all were at home. On Tuesday Cincinnati came to town and fell the host Buckeyes 11-3. Then came a three game set against Northwestern that started on Thursday. The Wildcats took the first two, with Ohio State salvaging a win in the rubber match for Senior Day. Ohio State finishes the regular season 30-26 overall and 10-14 in the Big Ten. 5/13: Ohio State 11, Cincinnati 3
Ohio State wasted no time getting started in their Tuesday victory over Cincinnati. Nick Sergakis led off the bottom of the first with a single. After a hit-by-pitch and a groundout, a sacrifice fly by Pat Porter plated Sergakis to get the scoring started. Following a walk, Troy Montgomery then hit a 2-run double making the score 3-0. Two more walks loaded the bases for Jacob Bosiokovic who knocked in a run with a single pushing the lead to 4-0 by the end of the first. The Bearcats roared back in the second with three runs making the score 4-3. The scored remained the same until the fifth when the Buckeyes scored three with some help from a perfectly executed squeeze play by Sergakis. Ohio State never looked back in topping the Bearcats 11-3
5/15: Ohio State 3, Northwestern 6
Ohio State starter Tanner Tully was unable to get off to a good start against Northwestern on Thursday. A fielder’s choice sandwiched between two doubles gave the Wildcats a 1-0 after the top of the first. Back to back singles for Ohio State led off the bottom of the first. While attempting a double steal, an error by Northwestern third baseman Joe Hoschelt allowed Ohio State to tie the game 1-1. After failing to score on a threat in the second, the Buckeyes fell behind 2-1 after a solo home run by Jack Mitchell in the third. Northwestern tacked on two more unearned runs in the fourth making the game 4-1. The Wildcats added two more in the sixth in route to their 6-3 victory over the Buckeyes. Read More

The baseball Bucks spent the went at home dodging the weather but not dodging their opponents. The Buckeyes went 1-3 for the week with a win against Marshall on Wednesday and then followed it up with a three straight losses to Indiana over the weekend pushing their record 16-10 (2-4).
3/25: OSU 4, Marshall 0
The Buckeyes jumped out to the lead in the second thanks to Troy Montgomery’s RBI single. Montgomery then got caught up between first and second allowing Ronnie Dawson the score the second run of the inning making it 2-0. Ohio State added a run in the 5th and one in the seventh making the final score 4-0. Zach Farmer Picked up the win for the Buckeyes after pitching 5.0 scoreless innings. The offense was lead by Troy Kuhn who went 2-4 with a double and Jacob Bosiokovic who went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s
3/28: OSU 4, Indiana 6
A late Buckeye rally fell short as the Hoosiers topped Ohio State 6-4 in the series opener. The Bucks fell behind 1-0 early on and by the end of the 7th they were down 6-1. Indiana’s Luke Harrison pitched a scoreless 8th in relief of Joey Denato before giving up 5 runs in the ninth. Scott Effross came in to shut down the Buckeye rally a secure the series opener win.
