• Time For Trophies- Now that the season is over, it’s time to start handing out gold stars and stickers for the best of the best, and Monday/Tuesday were B1G All Conference Awards, or as we like to call them- the “Ohio State was expected to be great, so here’s something for everyone else”.  As you may have read across the interwebs, the best team in the conference only had three players on the first team, while Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Penn State had five each. Most egregious was Ryan Shazier- the conference’s best linebacker, in terms of statistics, being bumped to the second team and overlooked for B1G Linebacker of the Year.
• Along Those Lines- Also “outstanding”? No Ohio State offensive linemen on the first or second teams, in spite of leading the conference

Here at tBBC we wanted to take a moment and reflect on the highs and lows from the past year, which will give me just enough time to snag that last piece of sweet potato pie while everyone is reminiscing.

We’re Thankful For…

Janelle: Coach Meyer. We knew that the Buckeyes would be better this season, but undefeated going into TSUN week? That far and away exceeded expectations. We knew it was possible, but after last season, I don’t think anyone was sure what would happen this year. He has rallied the troops and gotten them to play with so much heart and intensity. It has truly been fun to watch.

The Story Of The Week

Although it’s not really sports related, the capture/death of Osama Bin Laden did have some ripples throughout Buckeye nation and the sports world, particularly on the twitterverse:

• New Buckeyes Jeff Heuerman and Joel Hale didn’t have to wait for Michigan Week to christen Mirror Lake with their awesomeness- they joined thousands of other Ohio State students in making the moment one to remember (especially since there’s video of it)

• Former Buckeye and Great American Mark Titus has spoken… wroten… posted. That’s all I should need to say.
• Ongoing joke of the evening- “Tressel knew where Osama was since April but didn’t know who to email about it/emailed Terrelle ‘s mentor about it.” Droll. Let

• Award Winners- Congrats to the members of the Ohio State team who were honored with All Big Ten accolades by the conference’s coaches. The Buckeyes led the conference with ten winners, including first team Boom Herron, Mike Adams, Dane Sanzenbacher, Cam Heyward, Brian Rolle, Ross Homan, Chimdi Chekwa, and Jermale Hines. Second Team honors went to Justin Boren and Mike Brewster, with Honorable Mention given to Barclay, Pryor, Posey and Simon.

What a great week of football- three days worth of collegiate goodness, interspersed with some NFL stuff, lots of food, and the occasional neighborhood game. Although, this year things ended up being a little messy.

I guess you could say that the mess all started on Thursday, when our friends in burnt orange managed to lose their rivalry game against the Aggies.  As you can imagine, the good folks at Shaggy Bevo are taking this well, particularly given that most of the losses happened in Austin.

• Injury Report-Homan and Bell will be back for Penn State, as was reported earlier. Evenge is also progressing in his rehab.
• Speaking of Penn State- Today’s “Good Tweet” announces that Dustin Fox will be the honorary captain when the Lions come to Columbus next Saturday.
• Injury Report, cont.- As was speculated across the webs and in this week’s tBBC Radio Hour, Jake Stoneburner is not yet 100%, but will be closer after the bye.
• I Found My Quarterback In San Francisco- Coach Tressel today spoke about Troy Smith’s game with the 49ers, and mentioned that Coach Mike Singletary contacted him while he was weighing whether to start Troy or David Carr.

• Injury Report- Shugarts foot will continue to be a problem, Stoneburner is still probable, Mike Adams has violent stomach flu. Here’s hoping that it won’t be the strain that went through the Buckeyes last year (no pun intended).
• Injury Report, the Sequel- When asked, Coach Tressel commented that Terrell Pryor is “ready” to be a two way threat this week. Whether or not that means he’s completely healed, it certainly means that the game plan will look different than it did against the Hoosiers.
• Tress Talk- Coach spoke about the Badgers’ offense, and highlighted that while the running backs may get the publicity, QB Tolzien is the key to Wisconsin’s offense

• Injury Report- As mentioned in the comments, CJ Barnett is out for the season after suffering a knee injury against the Hurricanes. While this leaves the Buckeyes a bit thin in the secondary, the good news is that Orhian Johnson is more than capable and was the anticipated starter until injuries impacted his fall practice. There is a possibility of a redshirt, but that’s a discussion from another day.
