And The Winner Is…

Written April 7th, 2012 by MaliBuckeye

We’ve hesitated to announce the winner of the Buckeye Bloggers Network Bracket Challenge this year, mostly because we were waiting to see if our insurance provider would cover any… uh… peripheral damage that might result from someone winning.  For some reason, folks seem to be “overly enthusiastic” these days.

That being said, we’ve got to give huge accolades to Austin for his victory over Greg by one point… our winner had three of the final four accurate, and even predicted the palindromic UK KU matchup and Wildkat victory. Greg had a similar set of selections, but fell just short based on some earlier selections- understandable doubts of Cincinnati’s prowess, perhaps.

Greg isn’t out in the cold, however- Given the benevolence of our partners, we were able to provide prizes for the top ten finishers… they should be anxiously standing by their mailboxes as we speak.

If it’s not already obvious, we couldn’t have done this without the help of our great sponsors, so PLEASE show them some love. We were lucky to partner this time with:

  • The Buckeye Room- Great gear for the greatest fans in the nation
  • Fresh Brewed Tees- Shirts and gear for Ohio and Cleveland sports
  • Time And Change Clothiers- Livestyle gear for the gym or out at the club
  • CVS Flags- You want everyone to see when you fly your colors, this is the place to go
  • Cholula- Mandatory for tailgates and game watch gatherings
  • Wheat Thins- Goes great with gametime snacking, plus it’s “wheat” and “thin”… that means healthy, right?

Stay tuned to the BBN for more Buckeye coverage and ways to get involved- we’ve got some ides brewing for the Spring Game that you’re going to want to be a part of.

Buckeye Ballin'

It’s time for weekend number two of three in this year’s March Madness! Tonight features battles in the South and Miwest Regionals – including Big Ten action from Indiana, and Greatest-State-of-Ohio action from Xavier and Ohio U.

The LiveBlog will kickoff around 7:00 PM EST to get you squared away for the first game between Xavier and Baylor (7:15 PM). The Kentucky Wildcats follow up that game at 9:45 pm on CBS, while the Midwest regional matchups will occur on TBS starting at 7:45 PM.

This round of the BBN LiveBlogs are brought courtesy of the great team at Fresh Brewed Tees- particularly if you’re a fan of Cleveland sports, you’ve got to have one of their WINdians or Browns shirts in your wardrobe. Although, come to think of it, this one is a bit… uh… dated.

Ohio IS The Heart Of March Madness

Written March 19th, 2012 by MaliBuckeye

Ain't That The Truth

What an amazing first two rounds of college basketball action. In case you missed it, the State of Ohio is the State of College Hoops- sending 4 teams to the Sweet Sixteen is the first for a state in the history of the tourney.

And, since I know you’re wondering… Ohio Teams are 8-0 after two rounds. Teams from Canada’s Alabama2-2. The B1G also did pretty well for itself, and will make up 1/4 of the next round’s opponents.

When the Buckeyes and Bearcats tip off in Boston next Thursday at 9:45 pm, it will be their first meeting in the tournament since the 1961 and 1962 championship games, both won by UC. You may recognize some of the names from those teams: John Havlicek and Jerry Lucas were Buckeye stars, Bobby Knight was a reserve on the ’60-61 squad; Oscar Robertson had just put the Bearcat program on the map.

So, this next weekend looks to be yet another great set of matchups- and for those playing in the BBN Bracket Challenge, hope still lives on. That’s right, each round holds more possible points; so just because you’ve fallen to the back of the pack thus far, it’s not over by a longshot.

That being said, HUGE kudos to the three entries who sit atop the leaderboard after the first week’s chaos. In fact, we’ve got a great bonus prize package from the folks at Wheat Thins (no, you can’t be in their commercial) to help Mercutioh, keithj, and Tyler enjoy this week’s games and to talk smack and check stats while at work. Check it out:

To The Winners Belong The Spoils

For the rest of us, we’ll just have to refer to the handy guide that Wheat Thins put together if we have to work during Thursday and Friday’s matchup. As awesome as the coverage is across the Buckeye Bloggers Network, you can’t exactly read it while you’re supposed to be filling out your TPS reports.

Again, great weekend of sports behind us- great one yet ahead. Please show some love to the Wheat Thins folks by “liking” them over on the Book of Face. They’re giving away some Final Four tickets, where you can possibly watch at least three of the for teams from the Buckeye State square off for the title.

But not UC- their dance ends in Boston. Go Bucks!!

BBN Tournament LiveBlog: March Madness Day 4

Loud and Proud!!

One half of the Sweet 16 has been decided, with the other half set to go today starting at 12:15 pm! The Big Ten has an opportunity to set a conference record if both Purdue and Michigan State can advance into the 2nd weekend. Only four times has the Big Ten succeeded in getting 4 teams into the field of 16, and they have never advanced 5.

The LiveBlog will kickoff around Noon EST to get you squared away for the first game between NC State and Georgetown (12:15 PM). The Spartans follow up that game at 2:45 pm on CBS, followed by the rest of the day’s action, including #10 Purdue vs. Kansas, and some serious high-seed battles. We will be rooting hard for a 15 seed to make the Sweet 16, if only because it has never happened before.

Our second round action is brought to us by CVS Flags, who’ve provided an amazing Ohio State flag like the one on the right for our bracket challenge prize package. Even if you don’t win, it’d be great to buy two or three to hang up on the house of that neighbor who’s favorite B1G team was the only one to lose in either the NCAA or NIT first round.  You can consider it a “neighborhood improvement” project.

Yesterday was quite the exciting day of NCAA Tournament Action! Here’s to hoping today’s excitement waits until after 5pm.

The LiveBlog will kickoff around Noon EST to get you squared away for the first game between Kansas State and Syracuse (12:15 PM), a favorite pick for an early 1-seed upset. The Buckeyes follow up that game at 2:45 pm on CBS, followed by the rest of the day’s action.
