Welcome to another Monday Musings episode, glad that you stopped by. We made it past the Spring Game and now enter relative sports doldrums. Nonetheless, we’ll come up with something. First stop is The James, then we’ll wend our way through various sports and wind things up on a lighter note. After the horrendous week the nation has gone through, let’s get settled in for something fairly harmless. So, grab your cuppa joe and let’s go.

The James/Wexner

Several updates on the medical front this week. Below are lead-ins, please click on titles to view the articles.

Spring Forward- Lots and lots of news this week in preparation for the Spring Game in Cincinnati. Again, the “move” is due to a) Renovations in The Shoe and b) Wanting to increase the Buckeye presence in the southeast corner of the state.

No, it’s not time for the IlliBuck trophy again… Tuesday’s “news” was full of terrapin conversation, so we go where it leads. As such, here’s this morning’s soundtrack… I’m sure my folks will recognize it.

Buckeye 411

Urban Legend- The world was a twitter yesterday with news that Urban Meyer had revealed that Woody Hayes once let a turtle bite him… well… you know. While I agree with Vico that it should have been immediately evident that the story was a playful fabrication, as it wasn’t weird enough, it should also be noted that Coach Meyer told the same story last year with Earle Bruce as the protagonist. Never the less, the Ohio State PR department decided that it would be wise to clarify that the story was merely a tall tale, lest the area’s extensive Testudines Advocacy Group (TAG) call down the thunder on the University.

Here at tBBC we wanted to take a moment and reflect on the highs and lows from the past year, which will give me just enough time to snag that last piece of sweet potato pie while everyone is reminiscing.

We’re Thankful For…

Janelle: Coach Meyer. We knew that the Buckeyes would be better this season, but undefeated going into TSUN week? That far and away exceeded expectations. We knew it was possible, but after last season, I don’t think anyone was sure what would happen this year. He has rallied the troops and gotten them to play with so much heart and intensity. It has truly been fun to watch.

Sure, there’s games on Monday, but the weekend has been so amazing that we just couldn’t wait to get back in the saddle for our reflections on the games of note. Plus, are we really all that excited about a game that’s all technical and stuff? I thought not. Obvious choice for this week’s soundtrack… happy Labor Day.

Whew… I’ve got to admit, I should have been working out with Coach Mick during the offseason. Saturday found me trying to knock the rust off of my college football regimen, although I can definitely say that I was well hydrated. I’m guessing that’s what happened during the livechat- I hadn’t prepared enough, and brought the jinxation. You can breathe a sigh of relief, though- when I caught the replay on Sunday, my presence made no difference in the outcome… Baby steps, right?

From the looks of things, a number of teams … [Read More]

It’s been an interesting week in Bristol Connecticut, way out on the edge of the prairie of reason and rational thought… Let’s talk a little about what’s happened since the last time we chatted.

Our part in the party- First, as loyal readers know, the network decided to get all legal and stuff with their investigation into Ohio State, which allowed us to take a closer look at their potential motivation.

Buckeye takes to the air- As we shared earlier, LeCharles Bentley also went on the Cleveland area ESPN affiliate to share his perspective on the matter. The phrase “Corporate thuggery at it’s finest” is prominently involved.

Suspended belief- Then, the defecation struck the oscillator, as SbB reported that ESPN had suspended college football writer Bruce Feldman for his role in assisting Cap’n Leach write his scathing tome on life and, most interestingly, his termination due in part
… [Read More]

Most fans wanted to see total domination of one of the worst teams in college football on Saturday.

While it is difficult to call a 73-20 victory (the first time Ohio State has scored 70 since the “Mark May is going to hate Ohio State forever” beat down of Pitt in 1996) anything but that, Ohio State fans, as usual, are left with some questions.

The two biggest question marks revolve around the running game and defending the pass.

In the run game, Ohio State has failed to establish a “go to” back in the first four games. Brandon Saine and Boom Herron, the two most experienced players, have not separated themselves from the pack. This has left many fans questioning the effectiveness of Ohio State’s ground game and calling for more playing time for the explosive Jaamal Berry.

The other question that fans are left with after EMU … [Read More]
