From twitter: Best option available

We gave you a preview earlier, but now that the brackets are out it’s time to start making your picks.

You can flip coins, you can choose based on what mascot would win in a fight, you could even make your picks based on team graduation rates… but don’t sign up and then forget to fill out your choices. That’s how that lady in accounting wins every year, and it’s time to stop her reign of terror. Heck, if you fill it out today, you may just have a little extra luck.

Our prize package just got a little sweeter- not only do you get swag from Fresh Brewed Tees and another day of laundry delay from The Buckeye Room, but our friend Mekka Don will also be sending an autographed copy of his debut album “The Dream Goes On” to our winner as well.

While you’ve got a chance to win it, you can also go ahead and pick it up on Amazon or iTunes- I’ve been using it as my workout soundtrack for a week or so… it’s stellar.

Oh, and lest I forget, the winner also has the opportunity to share their voice with the world in the way of a “guest post” here at tBBC… A new audience for all of those crazy theories and amazing insights that are rattling around your brainpan.

Silver Bullet Points Is Talking About Practice

Written March 5th, 2014 by MaliBuckeye

If they can celebrate The Answer in Philly, we can celebrate Spring with this great musical tribute that includes his most notorious catchphrase

Buckeye 411

  • Spring Has Sprung- Ohio State started spring practice on Tuesday, and will do so again on Thursday prior to the players taking off for Spring Break. There was a lot of media coverage, be sure to check out Josh Winslow’s photo gallery for all your “guys running around in helmets” needs.
  • Injury Updates- Devan Bogard, Evan Spencer, and Chase Farris will be missing from practice this spring as they recover/rehab.  James Clark and Braxton will also be limited- Brax has shoulder surgery this past week, but will still be running and participating in “mental drills” with every snap of the first team.
  • Also banged up? Jeff Heuerman broke his nose in a weight room incident of sorts, Curtis Samuel missed work due to a hamstring issue, and Eli Apple was not participating for reasons that weren’t made clear.
  • And Also- Coach Meyer had a procedure on Monday to deal with a cyst that was giving him headaches.  From reports, it sounded as if it’s something he’s been aware of and treating for quite some time.
  • Alas- It’s official: uber-Linebacker Mike Mitchell will not practice with the team this spring.
  • Old Face, New Space- A couple of position changes to be aware of: Chase Farris and Joel Hale both leave Coach Johnson’s legions to bolster the offensive line, and Cam Burrows has been slid back from corner to safety.
  • Deep, Man- The folks at the OZone grabbed these photos of Tuesday’s depth charts (offense and defense). The buzz at practice was Darron Lee’s move to the starting Will Linebacker- Coach Meyer in particular highlighted his ability to trigger to the ball and the work he’d put in over the off season.
  • n00bs- Raekwon McMillan saw a lot of reps at middle linebacker today, and those in attendance said that the freshman absolutely looked the part.
  • Speedsters- Jalin Marshall and Dontre Wilson turned heads with their jets, and Mike Thomas continues to impress. People also talked about Jeff Green, the Georgia Tech transfer- his size, hands, and speed will create problems for other teams this year. Troubled tight end Marcus Baugh also saw some significant action.
  • Numerology- If you’re into that kind of thing, there were a couple of number swaps today. Dontre is back to wearing #2 (his high school number), while the #1 jersey goes to Johnny Dixon. Stephen Collier takes the mantle of #13 from Smooth Jazz, while Raekwon will be sporting #5. Curtis Samuel in #4, Mike Thomas in #3, and Marcelys Jones at #64 wrap up the new “it’s not the players, it’s the jersey” allocations for this season.
  • Four Letter Network- They were in the house today, and if you haven’t boycotted them (as your humble correspondent has), you can check out some video hereabouts.
  • Night Moves? Some speculation that Ohio State’s trip to East Lansing this season, an early November tilt, will be a prime time game… one of the first for the B1G in November.
  • Floppy Haired President? I’m not sure what the rules are for non-American born student body presidents at Ohio State (kidding, it’s totally cool), but our favorite Italian seems to be gaining momentum at taking that position.  Now supported by the Lantern (sort of), his campaign includes making Troy Smith very happy by bringing In-N-Out to Columbus.  Check out the video here:

  •  Also Awesome?  Mekka Don’s new release!!! Check it out on Amazon and iTunes!

Other News

  • Well, Gee… Our favorite bow-tied former Buckeye (sorry Malcolm) was named the new president in Morgantown this week, after being the “interim” president for the past few months.  Well wishes to Dr. Gee… and I think I’m not the only one who’d love to see you have one more tour of duty in Columbus.
  • Ah, Jersey- Other than Springsteen and Tony Soprano, what has the Garden State ever really given America? You’ve got to think that the B1G is wondering that every week as the Rutgers financial situation becomes more and more clear.  But “NYC TV Market!!!” and so forth.
  • I Still Heart Rich Rod- Actor? Nope… but I love that he’s taking a shot:

And Finally-

Today’s my dad’s birthday. So, this is relevant (and may explain a few things):

Silver Bullet Points Dethaws

Written January 29th, 2014 by MaliBuckeye

Well, given the news today in college sports and elsewhere, I think I’ve got a couple of soundtrack offerings that will draw it all together.  Stay warm people!! (it’s supposed to be down to the 60s in Los Angeles today… brrrrrrr.)

Squirtgun In January

Buckeye 411

  • Chosen Frozen- We’ve got to give major kudos to Buckeye coach Tom Herman, who was stuck for 12 hours in the Atlanta Traffic crapstorm following their epic blizzard of about one inch or so of snow.  Seriously, I guess the folks in the Snow Emergency Conference are in need of someone from the north to show them how to deal with the cold.
  • RE: Crootin’- Last time we chatted, it was Demetrius Knox that had Buckeye Nation wringing their hands in worry of a last minute exodus from #TheDream14. That was addressed by Coach Meyer and Coach Johnson, and ‘Meech is fully locked and loaded once again.  Now, though, we’ve got another offensive lineman who may be wavering, this time Illinois’ Jamarco Jones who is reconsidering his choice of Ohio State over the Spartans from East Lansing. Jones, who has several friends headed to Sparty in the fall, has his official “in home” from Dantonio and staff today, with Ohio State’s Warriner and Johnson following up tomorrow.  Jeremy Birmingham at Eleven Warriors has the best overview of the situation, and it will definitely be worth watching… if Jones heads to East Lansing this weekend for his “official”, then I think the writing is on the wall.
  • Four! More! Years? Well, if you’re not a fan of current Athletic Director Gene Smith, this won’t make you happy: It was announced today that he’s been promoted to Vice President and given a contract extension/raise.  Hooray?
  • Final Visit, Final Answer? Also of note this last weekend of “recruiting season 2014″ is that H-Back David Njoku will be in Columbus on an official visit, as will Michigan defensive lineman standout (and one time Wolverine “lock”) Malik McDowell.  Again, Birm’s got the latest.
  • Presidential News? Rumors on Tuesday began swirling (I think they started on Scout, but I saw it on twitter and other OSU boards) that The Ohio State University would soon be naming Michael Drake as their next President. Drake currently serves as the Chancellor at the University of California at Irvine, and is notable for his work with the health sciences within the UC system.  Given the significance of Ohio State’s medical centers, that may be an important skill set to bring to the table. Even though he’s currently an Anteater, there’s hope that Mr. Drake can bring something else to Columbus with him…

SBP: Buckeye News And Notes 1.22.14

Written January 22nd, 2014 by MaliBuckeye

Quick change of title format for our Wednesday update, for reasons that will soon be evident.  Also taking a beat from the news, today’s soundtrack goes all Roger Goodell on life.

Buckeye 411

  • 21 And Over, Please

    21 And Over, Please

Tight End, Loose Cannon? Kyle Rowland of Eleven Warriors broke the news late Tuesday that Buckeye tight end Marcus Baugh had been suspended from the team indefinitely for yet another issue with underaged alcohol usage.  While many of us would file this either under “meh” or “college lyfe!!”, it’s important to note that this would be Baugh’s third “incident” while a Buckeye, and his second involving alcohol.  He was removed from scholarship last summer, and was removed from team activities in September as well… it will be interesting to see if Coach Meyer believes in a “three strikes and you’re done” policy.  Baugh has always been seen as an amazing athlete, but his absence will mean that the other tight ends in the system (Heuerman, Moore, and Vannett) may be asked to bear the burden during the spring and beyond; the 2014 recruiting class does not have a tight end in the mix as of yet.

  • Happy Birthday! One day late, but still- Jack Nickalaus turned 74 on Tuesday. I would have mentioned this yesterday, but like most things involving my golf game I was way off target.
  • Hard Knox? Buckeye verbal Demetrius Knox made news on Tuesday with the announcement that he would be making an official visit to UCLA this weekend in spite of his commitment to Ohio State. Many feel as if this is a “vacation” opportunity, but it should be noted that the Bruins have several of Knox’ teammates in the fold and only have one offensive lineman in the class thus far.  Interestingly enough, though, Coach Meyer, Warriner, and Herman will all have their “in home” with him today, so it remains to be seen if the trip to Westwood actually occurs.  If it does, I might need to head that way myself to wander around campus with my Ohio State swag on.
  • Speaking Of Recruiting- It was an interesting day in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, with their number one recruit for the 2015 class, 5 star running back Damien Harris decommitting from That Team Up North. What makes this worthy of the “Buckeye 411″ you ask? Well, his recent two twitter follows include Stan Drayton and Tim Hinton, and it’s rumored that he spoke with Urban Meyer over the weekend.  Hmmmmm…
  • The Future Is Now- Sammy Silverman with a look at the early enrollees in the Dream 2014 class:

Buckeye Basketball… Go Nuts!!

Written November 12th, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

As you’re getting ready for the matchup with the Ohio Bobcats, you’ll need some music to enhance the atmosphere. Lucky for you Ohio State alumni and friend of tBBC Mekka Don has done it again with the official song for the 2013-14 Buckeye Hoops Season.

He’s been working with the team and the OSU Athletic Department and The Nuthouse- this will be at the Schott and all over your Ohio State Hoops season.

You can get the song for yourself at his site or on iTunes (if that’s your thing) as well as picking up the “Juice” single. You can also still get your shirt at the official Ohio State online store- For the record, the Buckeye football team is undefeated when I sport my Juice threads.

He’s also dropping an album later this fall that we’ll be filling you in on as well.

Go Nuts, Buckeye Nation!

If you’ve been at the ‘Shoe lately, then chances are that you’ve heard our friend Mekka Don’s 2013 football anthem.

But it’s not just through the sound system… he’s been all over gameday, performing live and helping get folks ready for kickoff!

Here’s some news and video from his latest trip-

Mekka Don returned to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio to do an autograph signing for his “Juice” tee shirts with Ohio State and perform his officially licensed Ohio State anthem “Juice” at River Jam.  River Jam is sponsored by WNCI 97.9 and WCMH NBC Channel 4.  Check out the news media features of Mekka Don on ABC 6, NBC 4, and 10TV.  Buckeye Nation was alive and JUICED up!

Silver Bullet Points To The King

Written September 26th, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

It’s Thursday, so we’re that much closer to gameday… got your juice yet? Hey, here’s a song that covers this week’s opponent AND the epic end of an amazing series! Double win!

Buckeye 411

  • Ohhhh! Shiny! Regular readers of this space (hi, honey!) will remember that we pointed out earlier this season that the Buckeyes would be wearing last year’s “Rivalry Gear” for a few games this season. When our friends at the Buckeye Room released the new jersey on Monday, we knew that this was a portent of good things to come- Ohio State + Alternate Uniforms + Wisconsin + Night Game = The Awesome. Today, Coach Meyer confirmed that the team would be wearing the “chrome package” against the Badgers, but not until after Sammy Silverman got us ready with the teaser poster you see  above.
  • Winning- EZE Offensive POTW, Joel Hale and “Pittsburgh” Brown Defensive POTW, and Doran Grant won the accolades for Special Teams Play.
  • Injury update- After practice today, Coach Meyer commented that Adolphus Washington would be good to play this week against the Badgers, and that Braxton Miller would get the start. This will be the first time that the entire Ohio State “starting lineup” will be available for action… Get ready, B1G.
  • Wither Smooth Jazz- Coach Meyer said that Guiton will be ready to go when/if needed on Saturday; he’s a leader and has always put the team first.
  • Hasn’t Missed A Step- At least, that’s the prognosis for Miller according to Bradly Roby.
  • Oh Yeah, It’s Personal- Roby also talked about how the game was an important one for Ohio State, and had what might be the quotes of the day after Wednesday’s practice;

When someone takes what’s yours, the next time you see them it’s going to be a fight.

We know we’re the kings. Simple as that. Last question.

  • Let’s Get Physical- We heard that it was “Bloody Tuesday” in practice earlier in the week, as the team gets ready for the challenge of a team that wants to control the trenches. Roby talked about how stopping the run was the first priority for the defense, and something that they relished. Noah Spence also talked about the aggressiveness in practice this week, and how the Silver Bullets know this will be a four quarter fight.
  • Stay Hydrated- As a night game, you’ve got to think that cramps won’t be a big issue for the Buckeyes on Saturday. But, after reading Wednesday’s preview of Sports Illustrated’s article on the Buckeyes (This time with no Dohrmann!), you get the sense that water is an important part of the team regimen. Except for Coombs, that is.
  • Enjoy It While It Lasts- Also in the SI piece; Tom Herman’s a hot commodity in coaching circles, being approached by two programs last season. He stayed due to his commitment to Coach Meyer, but it’s easy to see the handwriting on the wall.  You know where he’d excel? Texas.
  • Buckeye Swag- It’s a “Scarlet Out” on Saturday, but if you’re looking for something new to wear we’re excited to announce some great news from our friend Mekka Don. From the press release: Read More
