The offseason brings us another variation from the format of your midweek news and notes, as a couple of big stories have dominated the college sports landscape. That being said, it’s not like I’m going to deprive you of your Wednesday motivational tunes.

Lack Of Institutional Control

For those of you waiting for the other shoe to drop in the Hurricane Situation, you can breathe a bit now. Kinda.

On Tuesday, the NCAA finally sent their Notice of Allegations to the Hurricanes, after a week that saw the folks from Indianapolis as the well focused center of national ridicule. We’d be wondering what was taking so long in this process, given that the NCAA had been “involved” in the investigation for over two years- turns out that the time in question had been spent violating the NCAA’s own principals and going against the advice of their legal … [Read More]

The college basketball season is winding down but that doesn’t mean that the excitement is too. More over time games, more losses, and more surprises continue to be story of the season. Duke kept the streak of Top 5 teams losing by dropping their game to Maryland. The Miami Hurricanes continue to turn heads and move up the polls and will most likely do the same this week after beating Florida State. The Big East and Big Ten are proving to be the two best conferences in the nation as they continue to beat up on each other. The week of games are becoming too much for me to wrap up in a paragraph so I will stop rambling so you can see how everyone did last week.

Here’s a look at the Top 25 Week Ahead and Week in Review:

1. Indiana (23-3, 11-2) Previous Rank: 1

It would be easy to say Ohio State is better than what we saw on Saturday night in Miami. Dismissal of the 24-6 loss as an aberration would make us all sleep better at night.

The truth is there have been few with the courage to say this outright: the Buckeyes are going to struggle.

I am still struck by a conversation I had with another media member before the season about how Ohio State was going to fare on the football field. He told me he saw four losses on the schedule, and if he looked hard enough he could see six.

Six losses?!?!?!

Crazy as it sounded then and still a little even now, the reality of where Ohio State football is and where people want it to be is vastly different.

The game’s lopsided result has spawned plenty of questions, and until the Buckeyes take to the … [Read More]

This article originally ran on September 8th, 2010 in the week leading up to last year’s battle between Ohio State and Miami. We post it again heading into tomorrow’s game with the Hurricanes.

There have been few calls in the history of college football that have had earth shattering impacts on the entire collegiate fanbase. The mysterious 5th down in the Missouri/Colorado game comes to mind as one of the absolute worst. But in more recent times the first call that will pop off the tongue of anyone old enough is the “Pass Interference” call in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl.

There has been an awful lot of time wasted in discussion of the topic. Absolutely everyone has an opinion on it whether or not their favorite team was directly involved in the game. It has gotten absolutely out of control despite some attempts to end the controversy and despite a … [Read More]

Injury Updates- At the presser today, Coach Fickell mentioned that one of the reasons Braxton didn’t play on Saturday was that his prep was impacted somewhat by being dinged up last week. Today, though, several Buckeyes reported that Brax seemed healthy and ready to go. They also reported that Nathan Williams practiced healthy, so it would be difficult to imagine him missing out on Saturday. Jamaal Berry is back on the kick off return team,
… [Read More]

What goes with the Miami Hurricanes more than mediocrity, ruthless abandon, and a careless lack of respect to the game of football and institutional learning? How about an NCAA Investigation of the generation that has lasted for the better part of a decade. As mentioned earlier by the great Mali Buckeye, with the help of the great Yahoo! Sports staff, the season is in jeopardy for who was considered the first test on the schedule for the Ohio State Buckeyes. This preview will be a little bit different than the others, simply because it is unclear what the plan of the staff and university will be for the projected 12 starters that are linked to this horrific example of why there needs to be change in college football.

A new era of football begins under former Temple Owl head coach Al Golden this season, but the same old darkness and swirling … [Read More]
