You’re either reading this from home on a “ice day”, or from work after having dug yourself out of yet another mid-week snow storm. Stupid freaking groundhog… At any rate, here’s today’s soundtrack… for reasons that will hopefully soon be evident.
It’s taken me quite a while to build to just talking about basketball on a Friday night in RSB and alas, I will have a singular reference to football. To be fair, I will take care of that pre-RSB.
The Buckeyes football program has done some work the past couple weeks with respect to coaching staff additions that will cause a lot of fans to be quiet, for now. First and foremost, and probably the biggest hire since Coach Meyer hired his original staff is the hiring of Larry Johnson Sr. to replace Mike Vrabel. Johnson will coach the defensive line where he was hugely successful at PSU and has already helped in some of the damage briefly felt after the Vrabel exit. Kudos to Coach Meyer for bringing him in.
The new … [Read More]
We’re two weeks into 2014 and we’re still wrapping up 2013. We’ll look at who is staying and who is going, also who is on campus already to get ready for the spring. Plus we’ll have a fun look back for my “best of” 2013 edition that involves music and movies. It’s Wednesday, let’s rumble! (Don’t forget to click anything red for a surprise!)
Who’s in and who’s out?
Since the end of the Orangle Bowl we’ve tried to determine between Ryan Shazier and Braxton Miller who would stay and who was NFL bound. We’ve all weighed in with our own varying opinions and we found out the answers to the question for both last week. In the immediate weekend following the Orange Bowl loss we heard from Ryan Shazier that he would be entering the draft. Later in the week we … [Read More]
Well, it was good while it lasted. It was announced today that Ohio State Defensive Line Coach Mike Vrabel will be leaving the Buckeyes to take a position with Bill O’Brien with the Houston Texans as their linebacker coach. Vrabel has just concluded his third year on the OSU coaching staff; in 2011 he was linebacker coach for his friend, interim coach Luke Fickell, and was retained by Urban Meyer the past two years as defensive line coach.
Vrabel’s strengths were his ability to teach, his recognized recruiting skills and his passion for Ohio State. He spent 14 years in the NFL with the New England Patriots, most notably as a linebacker and goal-line tight end.
He is the 2nd coach to move on from Ohio State this year, with Everett Withers previously taking the position of coach at James Madison University. To be honest, because of Mike … [Read More]
Lots of news and notes to catch you up on before Walter White gets back to work.
Absent- Donovan Munger has missed most of camp thus far with some academic issues, and now has a medical (blood clot?) that will see him redshirting for this season. Najee Murray was also not present today, having been suspended for the team for at least the duration of training camp for a violation of team rules. Lots of speculation on this one, but at this point it’s only speculation.
Lotta stuff rattling around the ol’ brainpan the last couple of days… sometimes it’s good to have a bit of distraction from the harshness of our realities. Here’s the song that’s been stuck in my subconscious…
Looks like the recruiting train is rolling again, as Ohio State picks up its second commitment in two days via the decision of Pendleton South Carolina Defensive Tackle Michael Hill.
Rated as the top player in South Carolina, Mr. Hill also held offers from Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Alabama (where he visited just last weekend), Georgia Tech, and in state powers USCe and Clemson. Rumor has it that he was actually on the road to a visit at Clemson, but turned around and made the call to the staff in Columbus.
The 6’2″ junior made an early June trip to Ohio State with his family, and by all reports came away impressed. According to his father, he grew up a Buckeye fan, so this is another “homecoming” of sorts.
While many would assume that this is the work of Coach Everett and his Carolina connections, Coach Vrabel is actually … [Read More]
An Easter basket full of Ohio State and college sports news and notes, as we await one of the sacred holidays of the year. That’s right- “Easter Chocolate On Clearance Monday”.
