After it was unclear if he would return after a brutal collision with Wisconsin running back Montee Ball in the fourth quarter, Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier made announced his return in the biggest way possible.

With the Buckeyes leading 14-7 and just over three minutes remaining in the game, Wisconsin had the ball 4th-and-1 from the OSU 2-yard line. We all knew who was getting the football, and Shazier knocked the ball out of Montee Ball’s hands and Christian Bryant recovered, giving the Buckeyes possession and the ability to hold on and get a 14-7 victory in Madison.

Ballgame, right?

Far from it. The Badgers got the ball back and drove 41 yards in 1:25 and quarterback Curt Phillips found Jacob Pederson for a 5-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14 and send it to overtime.

In overtime, the Buckeyes scored first on just four plays as Carlos … [Read More]

After a week off Ohio State looks to get back on the field this Saturday and continue their growing rivalry with Wisconsin. What this also means is, after a week off we reach out to our fellow bloggers across the Big Ten for our Across the Web segment. This week we turn to Andy Coppens from MadTownBadgers and Delany’sDozen to give us some insight on the Badger’s. Check out our turn under the microscope from yesterday!

1. Coach Beliema and Coach Meyer say that there’s no bad blood following this off season’s “war of words” about recruiting. Do you think this adds to this game at all?

I think it’s honestly something for us media types and bloggers to chat about more so than something real between these two for the game. Come Saturday all the off-field stuff goes away and it’s all about what happens between the lines.

However, … [Read More]

After a slow start by his standards, Wisconsin running back Montee Ball is running through defenses in the last five games just like he did last year–a season in which he was invited to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Over the past five games, Ball has rushed for 773 yards and ten touchdowns. Those numbers are a bit eye-opening, considering he ran for just 453 yards and six touchdowns in Wisconsin’s first five games.

So, what has changed in the second half of the season for Ball?

Well, it starts with the team’s offensive strategy. Wisconsin is one of those teams which does not waiver its style of play year after year. You know exactly what to expect when you play the Badgers.

I think Wisconsin got away from that a bit in its first five games, and it was no accident they were just 3-2 to start … [Read More]

Back with another preview this one of the Grandaddy of them all. It feels odd that this game is not on today on New Year’s Day.

The Basics: Monday, January 2nd from Pasadena California at 5:00 PM EST. The game will be televised on ESPN. Wisconsin (11-2) and Oregon (11-2).

History: The Rose Bowl is just oozing with History and probably the bowl game that us Big Ten fans know the most about. It usually pits the winners of the Pac-10 and the Big 10, unless of course either of those teams make the NC game. Probably one of the best Ohio State memories comes from the 1997 Rose Bowl when our Buckeyes defeated Arizona St. and Jake Plummer when Joe Germaine hit David Boston in the corner of the endzone. The Rose bowl started in 1902 and has been played at the Rose Bowl stadium ever since it was built … [Read More]

Eric, Joe, and Michael from Our Honor Defend join up to discuss the excellent Ohio State win over the Wisconsin Badgers. In particular they discuss the game planning and overall play of the team, especially in the waning seconds of the game. They contemplate if this win was enough of a signature victory for Luke Fickell to keep his job, and ponder what should happen with Jim Bollman. They also talk about the future of the conference race and try to divine which teams are most likely to make the first ever B1G Championship Game.
