History: Yet another new bowl game, the New Orleans bowl has been played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans since 2001. That’s not entirely correct since the name changed, but we’ll roll with it for now. The game has been sponsored by R+L Carriers since 2006, after Wyndham Hotels and Resorts gave up sponsorship. The game regularly pits Conference USA against the Sun Belt, a condition that was not surprisingly satisfied this year.
They finished second in the Conference USA behind Arkansas State (who they lost to 50-27), and played a few good teams including Oklahoma State (65-24 L) and Florida (27-20 L). RAGIN’ CAJUNS Quarterback Terrance Broadway is a solid dual-threat player who has passed for 2526 yards and 16 … [Read More]

The trifecta of bowl awesome comes to a close with yet another game where the team from Louisiana gets to play at home in the Superdome… ah well, no complaints. Great memories from that place.

The Basics: 9:00 PM ET on ESPN, from New Orleans. SDSU (8-4, 4-3 MWC) and ULL (8-4, 6-2 Sun Belt).

The History: Believe it or not, we’ve actually covered this game before. Can you believe that this is the eleventh year of this wonderful experience?

San Diego State Aztecs- Michigan fans, take a good look at the Aztecs… these are the guys that the Hokester recruited. The Aztecs lost both of the games they played against ranked opponents (TTUN/SISU), and fell to TCU as well. They managed to upset the Cougars of WSU, but if you know anything about WSU that shouldn’t surprise you. Ronnie Hillman’s 19 rushing TDs and Ryan Lindley’s … [Read More]

December 18, 2010 9:00 PM ET ESPN

History: The New Orleans bowl marks its 10th anniversary this year by welcoming the Ohio Bobcats and the Troy Trojans to the Big Easy. The Trojans are no strangers to this particular bowl setting, having competed in the New Orleans Bowl in both 2006 and 2008, winning in their first trip and losing in the second. The universities from North Texas and Southern Mississippi are the most familiar participants in the bowl game, with both having made visits on four occasions. North Texas played in the first four New Orleans bowls but was only victorious in one of the contests. Interestingly, the “estimated economic impact” of the game is $15 million, and I’m sure New Orleans continues to appreciate every bit of it.
