Silver Bullet Points Knows Who’s Boss

Written April 9th, 2014 by MaliBuckeye

Bruce came to visit Ohio last night… and at least one person had a great time at the eventUPDATE: Video Evidence. So, today’s soundtrack is one of my favorite songs from The Boss… even if it’s somewhat new, it’s still a classic.

Ohio State Quarter Back

Buckeye 411

  • Representing In North Texas- Aaron Craft was involved in this weekend’s festivities, although not in the way that any of us would hope. Not only did he get his one shining moment, but he was honored as the National Defensive Player of the Year as a part of the Final Four events.  He was also a part of work that the honorees did with Special Olympics basketball players, who undoubtedly left the opportunity more scrappy and tenacious for their efforts.
  • Taking One For The Team- Great article in Tuesday’s Dispatch about Joel Hale, a starter at nose guard last season and his decision to request a move to the offensive side of the ball for his senior season.
  • Good Gig If You Can Get It- Ohio State will be paying Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, and Kent State to bring their talents to the ‘Shoe for 2014.  This isn’t really all that unusual, but the $2 million total is pretty significant. It should be noted, though, that the Hokies will more than likely return the favor next season when the Buckeyes travel to Blacksburg.  The Buckeyes will see $850k return to their coffers when they face Navy to open the season, given that it’s a “neutral site” game in Baltimore.
  • Congrats, We Think- Dan Sanzenbacher has been re-signed as a professional athlete!  But it’s with the Bengals… so it’s hard to know whether or not to send flowers of celebration or condolences.
  • Gear- While there are a lot of reasons to be concerned about the welfare and circumstances of “student athletes”, “lack of awesome apparel” should not be one of them, as the latest offering from Sammy Silverman shows: Read More

Buckeyes Gear Up For Clash With Wolverines

Written February 11th, 2014 by MaliBuckeye
Throwback14

Snazzy

The news broke last week that tonight would be a very special game for Ohio State… as if the hoops version of The Game needed any extra attention.

With the Wolverines, Spartans, and Badgers all falling over the past week, tonight’s matchup against That Team Up North has extra importance- A win by the Buckeyes would certainly go a long way at getting them back into the heat of the B1G Conference title race.

So, what better opportunity for the Scarlet and Gray to break out the hoops version of the “Pro Combat” uniforms- special threads that are part throwback (in style) and part future (fabric and fit).

And, if you’re like many fans, you’re going to want to add a set to your collection. Our friends at The Buckeye Room have got you connected… but there’s a limited number, so you’d better move fast.

While you’re there, you can also add to your “Beat Blue” gear with a full sized “chrome” helmet, similar to the one that Carlos Hyde* imbedded in Wolverine defenders for the past two seasons.

They’re obviously great partners with us, and you can join the Buckeye Room’s VIP list by subscribing to their email list for daily deals… I got a new hat for my birthday recently.

Will you be able to be as dreamy as Aaron Craft? Unpossible… but the Buckeye Room will keep you geared up for your pick up games, tailgating adventures, and trips to the ‘Shoe.

Check ‘em out, and Go Bucks!!

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Silver Bullet Points

Written December 18th, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

One more week until Christmas! Hopefully you’re getting your shopping all taken care of… and today’s soundtrack from three of my favorite artists will help inspire you to remember the real meaning of the season. (Honestly, that wasn’t the strangest thing I found this year…)

Someone made Santa’s list

Buckeye 411

  • Major Awards- This is the week that all of the “Best Of” lists and awards come out, and there were several Buckeyes who were acknowledged for their efforts during the 2013 season. Ryan Shazier led the list, being named a first team Associate Press All American (tree in the Buckeye grove!), to go along with the same honor from ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and USA Today.  Jack Mewhort was tabbed a first team AA by ESPN, a second team member from Sports Illustrated, and third team honors from CBSSports and the Associated Press.  Carlos Hyde was third team by the Associate Press, while Devan Bogard was third team according to CBSSports
  • Even More Importantly- A number of Buckeyes graduated this past weekend, including our soon to be favorite graduate assistant coach.
  • Did Someone Say Awards? You too can be swagtastic by winning our Bowl Challenge. Heck, join Bacon’s too.
  • Wheee. More Special Uniforms- The Lantern has great coverage of the University’s huge deal with Nike… you can bet there’s a ton of money involved.  While it’s certainly better than the adidas/Under Armour alternatives, I still can’t wrap my mind around Ohio State entering into a partnership which will essentially help build Oregon’s program.
  • Speaking Of Uniformity- Buckeyes will be in scarlet in the Orange bowl; the first time that they’ve worn the home gear in a post season game since… hell, I have no idea. 2000? Let’s see if this can break some of the recent bad luck in Florida, shall we?
  • Plenty Of Good Seats Still Available- If you’re headed to Florida (and why wouldn’t you?) you should be aware that tickets for the Orange Bowl are among the lowest on the secondary market for BCS contests.  While the Bowl itself says that it’s only got 1000 or so ducats left, I know where you can find a lot more than that… and for lower than face value.  So, go ahead and take your talents to South Beach- Be sure to celebrate the holiday appropriately there, though.
  • Coaching Carousel- At this point, none of the Ohio State coaching staff has left for another opportunity, although there’ve been plenty of rumors. Both Coach Fickel and Drayton were tied to the FAU job, with the former allegedly being offered the position and choosing to stay closer to home. Some folks said that Luke may be in the crosshairs for a position at Notre Dame, but at this point there’s nothing definitive. Coach Warriner has been linked to the Bowling Green and Army openings, although both sound as if they’ve got other candidates as their primary targets.  Interestingly enough, Coach Herman’s name hasn’t come up as of yet (knocks on redwood forest full of wood), but I wouldn’t be surprised to see his name listed as a candidate following the inevitable Texas Two-step shuffle.
  • I Think Santa Does This For The Elves On Christmas Eve- A couple of days old, but if this video of Coach Coombs doesn’t make you want to run through a brick wall, then bah freaking humbug: Read More

Ohio State Unveils New Rivalry Uniforms

Written November 18th, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

From @PickSixPreviews

Lots of rumors that the Buckeyes will be going “stormtrooper” at the end of this season, wearing an all-white version of their Rivalry uniforms against Michigan.

Kudos to our bros at The Buckeye Empire for being ahead of this trend.

We’ve known for a while now that the Buckeyes would be unveiling a take on the threads we saw against Wisconsin and Penn State, and that were unleashed on the Wolverines last November.

There was some speculation that OSU would “blackout” some time during the year based on jerseys offered by our friends at The Buckeye Room, but those threads are not compliant with NCAA regulations.

The ones shown at the official Ohio State website, though, give a completely different take on the classic uniform and will certainly add another splash to the greatest game of the season.

We’ll keep you updated as information becomes available on this, but personally I like the move. I’ve always thought that the all white uniforms worn by the folks in Austin are among the best in college sports, and this gives a similar vibe.

What do you think?

Silver Bullet Points To The King

Written September 26th, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

It’s Thursday, so we’re that much closer to gameday… got your juice yet? Hey, here’s a song that covers this week’s opponent AND the epic end of an amazing series! Double win!

Buckeye 411

  • Ohhhh! Shiny! Regular readers of this space (hi, honey!) will remember that we pointed out earlier this season that the Buckeyes would be wearing last year’s “Rivalry Gear” for a few games this season. When our friends at the Buckeye Room released the new jersey on Monday, we knew that this was a portent of good things to come- Ohio State + Alternate Uniforms + Wisconsin + Night Game = The Awesome. Today, Coach Meyer confirmed that the team would be wearing the “chrome package” against the Badgers, but not until after Sammy Silverman got us ready with the teaser poster you see  above.
  • Winning- EZE Offensive POTW, Joel Hale and “Pittsburgh” Brown Defensive POTW, and Doran Grant won the accolades for Special Teams Play.
  • Injury update- After practice today, Coach Meyer commented that Adolphus Washington would be good to play this week against the Badgers, and that Braxton Miller would get the start. This will be the first time that the entire Ohio State “starting lineup” will be available for action… Get ready, B1G.
  • Wither Smooth Jazz- Coach Meyer said that Guiton will be ready to go when/if needed on Saturday; he’s a leader and has always put the team first.
  • Hasn’t Missed A Step- At least, that’s the prognosis for Miller according to Bradly Roby.
  • Oh Yeah, It’s Personal- Roby also talked about how the game was an important one for Ohio State, and had what might be the quotes of the day after Wednesday’s practice;

When someone takes what’s yours, the next time you see them it’s going to be a fight.

We know we’re the kings. Simple as that. Last question.

  • Let’s Get Physical- We heard that it was “Bloody Tuesday” in practice earlier in the week, as the team gets ready for the challenge of a team that wants to control the trenches. Roby talked about how stopping the run was the first priority for the defense, and something that they relished. Noah Spence also talked about the aggressiveness in practice this week, and how the Silver Bullets know this will be a four quarter fight.
  • Stay Hydrated- As a night game, you’ve got to think that cramps won’t be a big issue for the Buckeyes on Saturday. But, after reading Wednesday’s preview of Sports Illustrated’s article on the Buckeyes (This time with no Dohrmann!), you get the sense that water is an important part of the team regimen. Except for Coombs, that is.
  • Enjoy It While It Lasts- Also in the SI piece; Tom Herman’s a hot commodity in coaching circles, being approached by two programs last season. He stayed due to his commitment to Coach Meyer, but it’s easy to see the handwriting on the wall.  You know where he’d excel? Texas.
  • Buckeye Swag- It’s a “Scarlet Out” on Saturday, but if you’re looking for something new to wear we’re excited to announce some great news from our friend Mekka Don. From the press release: Read More

Silver Bullet Points Has Been To The Mountain Top

Written July 3rd, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

If you’re following us on the book of face, you know that I made it back from my trip to Mt. Whitney last week- when you’d usually be reading SBP, I was at 14,508 ft, as the picture to the right can attest. It’s Buckeye Nation everywhere, people.

To celebrate, today’s soundtrack is a personal favorite… And I’ll include a few more photos/notes from the trip at the end of this post.

Flag. Planted.

Flag. Planted.

Buckeye 411

  • Hah-vahd Man- Tuesday evening we were informed that Ohio State linebacker Luke Roberts would be transferring from Columbus to attend… get this… Harvard. Not exactly running kids off to Southern Alabama, is it Nicholas? Luke, from what we are told, leaves the program on great terms and with the coaches’ blessing, although this continues to raise issues for the Buckeyes at linebacker depth for the coming season.
  • Plus One- While not directly related, Tuesday we also were given word that Ohio State had added another “preferred walk on” for the 2013 class- Cincinnati Elder’s Joe “Could My Last Name Be Cooler” Ramstetter is a wide receiver who had initially signed with Dayton to play baseball. the 6’3″, 200 pound receiver had had 51 receptions for 1,005 yards and 15 scores during his senior season.
  • Speaking Of N00bs- If you’ve been paying attention to twitter over the past weekend, you know that Ohio State was well represented at Nike’s “The Opening”; having 9 well dressed members of the 2014 class participate in this “invite only” event. Newest Buckeye Terry McLaurin represented amazingly well, and was this close to winning Mike Mitchell’s SPARQ trophy. The quarterback and linemen competitions were Wednesday, with the 7-7 challenge beginning as well.
  • Oh, We’re Serious Now- When your coach is turning in someone he hired at his former program for an alleged recruiting violation, well…
  • Going Campin’- This year’s Ohio State football camp kicks off on August 3. Thanks for the anniversary present, Coach Meyer!
  • Busted Wing On The Songbird- Kenny G will have his hand in a splint for a couple of weeks, according to Coach Meyer. I’m sure that things will be fine… he can play the sax with his left, right?
  • Our Long National MSPaint Filled Nightmare Is Over- According to Sammy Silverman, THIS is the new Ohio State athletics logo (and not the earlier abomination): Read More

Ohio State Football Hype Video

Written May 6th, 2013 by MaliBuckeye

This is not too shabby:

(Unless it’s a prequel to a horrible uniform announcement, that is)

UPDATE: From the twitters-

@BCastOZone: Russ Hoeflich from OSU video dept made this for Nike, it is his production, not something Nike made!

Silver Bullet Points From the Schott

Written January 23rd, 2013 by MaliBuckeye
swishswoon

#Swish #Swoon

A bit of a different look at things this Wednesday, as I was fortunate to join Jim, JoeL, and Janelle in attending Ohio State’s win against Iowa in the hoops of shootyness.  So, here’s your musical interlude for this festive event.

Buckeye Hoops Thoughts

  • Great Value- This was my first trip to Value City Arena, and it was more than fantastic. Great seats (thanks, Joe!) and a good, if ugly win
  • All About Timing- Not for the Buckeyes (yet), but just a comment on the 6:30 start… tons of empty seats for a Tuesday night game. I know it’s not a weekend match against Michigan, but c’mon, people!!
  • Nuts. Housed.- Couldn’t have been more impressed with the Student Section, some of whom had queued up around 10 or so. Who needs classes, right? While the game was low on energy overall, the Nuthouse certainly didn’t reflect that… well done!
  • He’s Crafty- Aaron broke the steals record (and our hearts… #Swoon) right in front of us. Congrats, #4!
  • Reinforcements- Thomas went out and the Buckeyes went cold… although it could be argued that they were cold before this (for a couple of reasons). That being said, Matta and others have talked about how this year will need to be a “second option by committee”… and we didn’t see someone step up when Thomas was getting his injury looked at.
  • On The Other Hand- Four Buckeyes were in double digits, so the wealth was spread around pretty well. Sad to see DT not get another consecutive 20 point game, though.
  • This Week In Slam Thompson- I wish I had a highlight to point to, but somehow some one managed to overthrow him. How do you get the ball outside of his range??  That being said, it’s probably better that he didn’t throw one home- I was sitting to a nice lady who didn’t need to hear what exclamations would have come out of my mouth should the awesomeness have manifested itself.
