With that in mind, let’s revisit an SBP favorite for this week’s soundtrack.

Buckeye 411

Brick Wall Not Included- which is too bad, because you’re going to want to run through one once you’ve checked out the latest hype video from the Ohio State staff. We’ll embed it once that option is available, but for now, take two minutes away from the TPS reports and watch it at the official site.

And The Good News? Coach Meyer is planning on being here for quite some time.

Still Making A Difference- Great article in Inside Higher Education about Jim Tressel’s new career, including something that this higher education professional can certainly relate to,

Another Monday, another week. Grab your coffee and let’s get right to it. Before we begin, I want to wish a (some posthumously) happy birthday to:

Ralph Abernathy (civil rights)

Vannevar Bush (analog computer, Manhattan Project)

Helmuth JG von Moltke (Nazi resistance)

Rupert Murdoch (media mogul)

Lawrence Welk (band leader)

Shawn Springs (Buckeye)

I’m sure there are others, but we need to move on.

Football
Spring Practice began with a couple practices this week. Mali has some (Silver Bullet) points on it. The biggest take-away for me is that after the first day, Urban didn’t think the team looked like a “clown show”. Which he did last year, prior to the team going 12-0. If things have changed that much, I’m somewhat optimistic about this year.

The other item that caught my eye, was some prose by a fellow Big Ten blogger. He had little regard for OSU fans/commentators expressing their relief that … [Read More]

How many people does it take to pull off a miracle? It’s kind of a trick question, since ‘miracles’ usually imply divine intervention but the amazing truth is that many inspired and faithful people are looking to find ways to create daily miracles for those who live near the heart of Ohio. What follows the pictorial update is the original article helping get the word out about the DRIVEN event that took place on December 15th. As you will be able to see, many families were blessed by this event and these three wonderful people are the DRIV(ing)EN force behind it.

“The DRIVEN Food Outreach has just as much impact on me as it does the families in attendance. Giving to others means so much to me! Giving breaks the back of greed!

This past Saturday at Thomas Worthington High School in Columbus, The DRIVEN Foundation hosted it’s Flag Football game featuring former Buckeyes and benefiting the Stefanie Spielman Fund. Several former Buckeyes were participating as well as others representing The Columbus Christian Center Church who also sponsored the event.

The weather may have put a damper on the attendance, but it did not put a damper on the spirit of the event or those playing. The day started with Driven founder and President Roy Hall organizing everyone and getting them ready to play by leading them through warm-ups. He also took the time to have a pre-game get together in the locker-room with all of us to do a meet and greet and Pastor Davis Forbes led us in a wonderful prayer. Let’s take a look at who took the field.

Earlier this week, we talked about the importance of getting more involved in issues than only giving financially- “Paying It Forward” in ways that only Buckeye Nation can do.

This morning, I got an email from a long time reader and friend regarding a way for folks to help out with something impacting his family. We don’t usually run these kinds of “articles”, but thought that this one was worth an exception. After talking with him further, here’s what he’d like to get out to you:

Mali,

That was some game yesterday, wasn’t it? The good news (the win) got even better (Braxton deemed symptom-free) as the day wore on. Unfortunately, the news was tempered a good bit.

Ironically, this note is a follow up to your commentary on health issues ‘awareness’ compared to health issues ‘action’ in your SBP this week.

To shorten the story a good bit,

This week, Ohio State faces a Purdue coach that’s undefeated* against them, and seeks to rebound from a horrible defensive showing at Indiana. So, yeah- our soundtrack is something that should be harped on, even if it seems a little paranoid.

Buckeye 411

Think Pink- Well, I guess this is a thing now, as this week’s game against Purdue is a “Pink Out” for breast cancer awareness. Personally, I’d rather try to approximate the color by doing alternating shades of red and white, but no one ever asks me. More on this event later in the program…

Getting Defensive, Part One- Our friends over at Men of the Scarlet and Gray have taken to defending the Buckeye defense, first in looking at the state of affairs at this point in the season, and second highlighting the real culprit for the scoreboard woes- Special Teams Play.

It’s not often that I show my negative opinions publicly but this commentary has given me a great opportunity to get things off my chest so to speak. Remember that my opinion is not necessarily that of tBBC and should only be considered as my opinion. Here it goes, with both barrels.

I already said my piece in regards to how PSU fans were reacting to the Sandusky news and how people were attacking the university. They are not one and the same. Since I went on vacation we have found out that said university did play a major role in covering up his actions and that includes Joe Paterno. Here is my belief in the matter. The only way they will be able to start over or continue forward is to cut all ties with the situation. Does that include tearing down the statue that was erected in honor of … [Read More]
