The Ohio State rifle team turned in a team record 4648 in a close match at No. 1 West Virginia. Although the Mountaineers won by nine, the Buckeyes defeated WVU in smallbore 2305-2301 en route to a program-best score, eclipsing the previous best of 4633 recorded last season.
In smallbore, Ohio State was led by sophomore Remington Lyman who fired a personal and match high 584. Freshman Deanna Binnie also had a solid day for the Buckeyes with a 581. Senior Amanda Luoma and freshman Chrissy Thomas both fired 570 and junior Greg Hagar rounded out team scoring for the Buckeyes with a 562. Redshirt senior Dan Chapman fired a 565 in his first action of the season and sophomore Alex Kimura (555) also competed as an individual for the Buckeyes.
Smallbore is a rifle of .22 or less caliber.
In air rifle, Ohio State was again led by Lyman who fired a personal-best 592. Binnie also fired a personal-best with a 588. Luoma (584), Thomas (579) and Hagar (562) rounded out team scoring for the Buckeyes. Chapman (577) and Kimura (578) rounded out the individual scores for the Buckeyes.
Fencing wins Duals, again.
The Ohio State fencing team finished 13-0 in the 2013 OSU Duals Saturday at the French Field House. The victory extended the team’s undefeated streak to 10 years at the event. Read More
3/9 – No. 4 Ohio State defeated No. 15 UIC by a score of 439.200-409.050 on Saturday at St. John Arena. Six Buckeyes won individual event titles at the meet (floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, and parallel & high bars. Junior Michael Newberger won his fourth event title of the season on the pommel horse. Teammate Alex Johnson won his second consecutive title on the high bar.
3/9 – No. 8/11 Ohio State was defeated by No. 7/7 Denver 10-9 on Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. At halftime, the Pioneers led 6-5, and then they took an 8-5 lead in the third quarter. In the fourth, Ohio State cut the Denver lead to 2 at 9-7 after a Charlie Schnider goal. Later on, they cut the lead to one at 10-9, but they were unable to score again to tie. Logan Schuss had 3 points for the Buckeyes while teammate & goalie Greg Dutton had nine saves.
