For the first time since 2005, the San Diego State Aztecs visited Columbus to play the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Aztecs failed to score until late in the 3rd quarter, falling 42-7 in a near total domination in all phases of the game. With Braxton Miller down with a minor injury, Kenny Guiton stepped up and delivered 19/27 passes for 152 yards for 2 touchdowns and 1 interception, and added 9 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown. His counterpart put up 21/34 for 207 yards, one score and one interception.
For the running game specifically, Jordan Hall ran the ball the most for the Buckeyes, who spread the ball around among their running back committee, and picked up 13 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. Most impressively, the young defensive line held an … [Read More]
Thoughts wrapping up Game One and looking toward the Aztecs-
We are 10 days away from kickoff in Ohio Stadium! Can you feel it?! The excitement is real and the anticipation is high for 2013. Let’s take a look at the few things we’ve gathered from practices since we last met and finish our look at the college football schedule from a national perspective as we look at November and December. It’s Wednesday, let’s rumble!
What we know
After a quiet spring and early summer, the suspension total from off-field shenanigans added up pretty fast. As it stands currently: Carlos Hyde will miss 3 games, Bradley Roby a minimum of 1 with potential for more to be added, Rod Smith will miss the opener while Najee Murray and Marcus Baugh are out indefinitely.
The one with the most to lose, in my humble opinion, has to be Rod Smith. Compliments of the … [Read More]
Quick notes from week two of Ohio State’s pre-season practices. Obvious soundtrack is obvious
Heisenberg’s words to Hank ring true for the remaining seven episodes, they also should sound as a warning for the rest of the B1G. There are still a lot of question marks on the Ohio State team as camp progresses… and if you don’t truly know who the Buckeyes are and what they are capable of, well…
(You know, at some point I’ll probably write an SBP without a Breaking Bad reference… but today ain’t that day. Here’s your soundtrack.)
In today’s episode of the tBBC’s Countdown to Kickoff series, we come to #74 a more recent game. The feature game is the November 3rd, 2012 smoking of Illinois, 52-22.
After a tight 1st quarter (7-6, OSU) the Buckeyes effectively put this game away in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Illini 24-0. Drew Basil kicked off the big quarter with a 31-yard field goal, then worked on extra points as Carlos Hyde (2 TD) and Rod Smith (1 TD) did the heavy lifting in that quarter.
After a weekend filled with excitement and disappointment, it’s a bit of a quiet mood at tBBC headquarters. We like baseball, and know that OSU sports are amazing even if not the “got to be on television” variety, but I’d be lying if I didn’t confess that there’s a bit of a let down these days. Ah well… only two songs possible for today’s soundtrack. Onward.
