What Do You Want to See On Saturday? San Diego State

Written September 6th, 2013 by Gary Russell II

The Aztecs from San Diego State come to THE SHOE this weekend and here’s our wish list:

MaliBuckeye

  • Scrambled Legs -  I’m OK with Braxton not needing to scramble, but on the cases where he feels pressure let’s see him work some magic
  • Swinging Gate - We saw two options off of the XP formation.. might there be more?
  • Roby – 1 – Kenobi - Welcome back, Bradley… time to earn your jersey number.
  • Tight Ends - A couple of great checkdowns against Buffalo, but let’s get the big(ger) fellas involved in the offense?
  • Reading Rainbow - Braxton is still learning the reads and keys on the option play, and seemed to struggle a bit against Buffalo’s three man front. SDSU will bring even more unique looks- how will he respond?

  • Improved Blocking - While we were starting some new guys on the line, the pressure that Buffalo got when they put their minds to it was a little much. Hopefully a week of work will have improved some of the footwork and given us the leverage to help Braxton out.
  • No Turnovers - The two turnovers we committed against the Bulls were two too many, and both were caused by poor decisions (getting fancy on a run, and getting tunnel-vision on the screen). Let’s not put our defense in a hole again this week.
  • Attacking Defense - In the same vein, lets force a few additional turnovers by getting some serious pressure on QB Adam Dingwell.  Eastern Illinois forced him into 4 interceptions (granted on 63 passes), so hopefully the Buckeyes can do something similar.
  • More EzE – I was disappointed to only see Ezekiel play as few possessions as he did.  Get that boy the ball and let’s see what he can do.

tBBC Fans Interact: Buffalo

Written September 4th, 2013 by WVaBuckeye

This past weekend as the Buckeyes faced the Bulls, we started a new feature here at tBBC. Each week we will feature some hash-tags on twitter and feature your responses to those in a weekly article. While we are at it, we will feature a former Buckeye each week to give their two-cents worth as well and see how you stack up to their thoughts.

This week we’re bringing the “Juice” and featuring Mekka Don! His new Buckeye song hit the skies this past Saturday to a great response in The Shoe.

Juice, Juice, Juice Thank you Mekka!

Juice, Juice, Juice
Thank you Mekka!

#BufTopPlay  Braxton Miller 47 yard TD to Devin Smith. Great throw and great adjustment by Devin.

#BufOMVP Jordan Hall. He ran his butt off today.  Big holes but also showed burst and agility.

#BufDMVP Noah Spence

#BufSTMVP Dontre Wilson. Great kick return!

#BufOUnsung Offensive Line.  They were creating huge holes and giving Braxton (and Kenny) time to throw for the most part.

#BufDUnsung Ryan Shazier.  Despite the injury he was still effective.

#BufMorePT Dontre Wilson, Jalin Marshall, Ezekiel Elliot, Warren Ball. Can’t wait to see what these guys can do!

Silver Bullet Points Gets More Ammunition

Highest Caliber

First glance at NLOID; both in Columbus and elsewheres.

Buckeye 411

  • Stylin’ and Profilin’- Best dressed recruit award goes to Ron Tanner, styling the bow tie and braces.
  • Injury Report- Here’s an argument against playoffs; Terrelle Pryor may be recuperating throughout the spring following his post Sugar Bowl surgery. Methinks it’s time for some Kenny G.
  • Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics- In case you missed it, Ohio State has the highest winning percentage in college football since 1904. On the recruiting front, the Buckeyes signed 23 of the 30 student athletes who made official visits (76.7%). The 2011 class is ranked #7 (ESPN), #10 (Rivals), and #3/4 (Scout).
  • Stylin’ and Profilin’, The Sequel- Best dressed coach award goes to rookie Stan Drayton, who was told by others on the staff that he should wear a tie.  Of course, no one else did.
  • Not All Fun And Games- The two stories of the day may have been the offensive linemen that Ohio State didn’t receive LOI from; Glenville’s Aundrey Walker is headed to USC (more on them later) and Cleveland’s Chris Carter (no relation) was unable to sign due to his incarceration for suspected sexual assault. In an interesting twist, though, a spokesman for Mr. Carter said that he won’t be charged (according to Ken Gordon), and there are reports that he was released without bond; that there wasn’t a strong case, and that charges may not be filed. We’ll keep you posted.
  • Ah, Spring- In addition to the five 2011 Buckeyes already on campus, Akron’s Tommy Brown will be joining the team for practice leading up to the Spring Game.
  • Tressel’s Komedy Klassic- We take this time to defer to one of the newest Buckeyes, Mr. Ryan Shazier

I got four good guys with me helping me stay warm. Wait. Not like that…

Recruiting Update: Braxton Miller is a Buckeye!

Written June 3rd, 2010 by Jim

Buckeye Nation is smiling with you.

First things first, a big congratulations to Mr. Miller on an excellent college choice.

If he keeps his head on straight, he has the tools to be the next great QB at The Ohio State University. Exciting stuff. For evaluation and video of what he brings to the table, check out our coverage from earlier in the week.

It is a good day because Miller is on board as a Buckeye, but it may be an even better  day because of the implications that Miller’s commitment has for the rest of the class.

Bringing one of the top players in the country on board is something that other recruits take notice of, particularly if that player is a QB.

The Miller commitment has the potential to create a domino affect on some other top players around Ohio (maybe around the country), and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more players become a part of this class sooner rather than later.

The class of 2011 is already in great shape, especially considering how early it is in the recruiting season. With a strong close, aided by some active recruiting by Miller and other Buckeye commits, Ohio State is in line for a top 5 recruiting class. Read More

Recruiting Update: 5/4/10

Written May 4th, 2010 by Jim

Jabari Gorman will likely decide between Ohio State and Miami FL, who happen to be playing each other. Unsurprisingly, Jabari will be attending that game.

There hasn’t been much action on the recruiting front over the past week, so I am going to list the players I think are the most likely to become a part of this, most likely at the top, least likely at the bottom.

Pretty simple, I know, but it’s better than nothing for the week.
