Although it’s not really sports related, the capture/death of Osama Bin Laden did have some ripples throughout Buckeye nation and the sports world, particularly on the twitterverse:

• New Buckeyes Jeff Heuerman and Joel Hale didn’t have to wait for Michigan Week to christen Mirror Lake with their awesomeness- they joined thousands of other Ohio State students in making the moment one to remember (especially since there’s video of it)

Strong linebacker play has been a trademark of Ohio State football for decades. While another school may have been given the title ‘Linebacker U’, few teams have matched the consistent excellence Buckeyes have brought to the position.

At the start of the season, Ohio State had two sure things at linebacker in Ross Homan and Brian Rolle, and one pretty big question mark on the strong side. Given recent history at the position and the talent waiting in the wings, however, there was little question that the Buckeyes would successfully fill the void.

Determining exactly who would fill that void was one of the more interesting stories of the off season. Etienne Sabino appeared to have the spot locked up following the spring, but Andrew Sweat returned from injury in the fall and quickly passed Sabino on the depth chart.

• Award Winners- Congrats to the members of the Ohio State team who were honored with All Big Ten accolades by the conference’s coaches. The Buckeyes led the conference with ten winners, including first team Boom Herron, Mike Adams, Dane Sanzenbacher, Cam Heyward, Brian Rolle, Ross Homan, Chimdi Chekwa, and Jermale Hines. Second Team honors went to Justin Boren and Mike Brewster, with Honorable Mention given to Barclay, Pryor, Posey and Simon.

• Speaking of Penn State- Today’s “Good Tweet” announces that Dustin Fox will be the honorary captain when the Lions come to Columbus next Saturday.
• Injury Report, cont.- As was speculated across the webs and in this week’s tBBC Radio Hour, Jake Stoneburner is not yet 100%, but will be closer after the bye.
• I Found My Quarterback In San Francisco- Coach Tressel today spoke about Troy Smith’s game with the 49ers, and mentioned that Coach Mike Singletary contacted him while he was weighing whether to start Troy or David Carr.

• Injury Report- Ross Homan’s injury will mean that he’s out for a couple of weeks, Dorian Bell is recovering from a concussion that he got against Indiana. Storm Klein was not 100% last week, but is expected to be ready for Purdue. Orhian Johnson should also be ready to go. Shugarts’ foot still hurts and will probably do so for the remainder of the season.
