Silver Bullet Points Has Been To The Mountaintop

Yosemite = Buckeye Nation

On Tuesday, I was impressed by Danny from 11W posting his “OHIO” photo from the top of Mt. Baker, for a couple of reasons. First, I’ve lived in WA and skied at Baker all the time. Second, I was hoping to have a similar photo from the top of Mt. Whitney under my belt by the end of this summer, but a couple of family issues prevented me from enhancing the highest peak in the continental US in such a glorious way. Finally, I love shots of the outdoors, and just got back from a week long trek as well- the photo on the right is much lower than Danny’s, but includes at least one Michigan fan. Always good to spread the gospel, right?

It’s good to be back… right before the team goes camping as well.  And here… we… go…

Buckeye 411

  • Somebody’s watching- The pre-season lists keep being kind to Buckeyes, with John Simon being named to the Hendricks List (since there’s not a Chuck Norris list) and Big Hank being tabbed as a CBS All American.
  • One Bad Motha’-  So, the Tuesday Newsday saw reports that Brionte Dunn would not be facing drug charges, as the officer in charge did not believe that the substance and paraphernalia in question belonged to the freshman running back. According to the rumor mills of several Ohio State message boards, this was due in part to Brionte’s mom reporting to the scene to take responsibility and ownership of the “goods”, which means that someone is getting a really awesome gift this May.  We’ll find out Friday what consequences will result from this situation, as that’s when the Buckeyes report for the beginning of fall training.
  • Productivity? Yeah right-  Particularly as we grow closer to fall practice it gets harder for those of us who have real jobs to focus on our “responsibilities”. I’m just attributing it to OHIOADHD and leaving it at that. It also doesn’t help that the Sports Information Department is enabling my problems by releasing the media guide during a work week.  Here’s the link- the effing TPS reports can wait, right?
  • Feeling Inspired? As if the media guide weren’t distracting enough, here’s a clip of the video that Friday Night Lights participants got to experience. Of course, you’ll have to imagine the huge scoreboard screen and thundering sound… unless, that is, your office is a whole lot cooler than mine. Read More

You Are Not Entertained: Penn State

Written November 20th, 2011 by MaliBuckeye

Well, that was awkward. Was there anything salvageable about yesterday’s dose of disappointment?

Things Started Well

Eric

  • Ohio Stadium-  Check. C-Deck, Ahoy.
  • The Best from Buckeye Fans- A number of sources said that PSU fans and players were treated with respect and dignity, so good job on this. Here’s hoping that it catches on for the next trip to Happy Valley.
  • 100 Yards from DeVier Posey- Nope: 66 yards on 4 catches.
  • 100 Yards from Boom Herron- Nay: 76 yards. Brax has 105.
  • A passing game that Penn State has to respect- Still wishing. Some big drops by the young Bucks really hamstrung this game from the start.
  • A pick-six- What about a Pick that led to Six?

Chris

  • Welcome Back, DeVier

Boom goes the dynamite – No one will ever doubt Boom’s courage and heart. But the fumbled exchange was almost catastrophic.

  • A pocket full of Poseys – If only there was a passing scheme in the Ohio State offense… I loved the screen call, and moving him around to get better coverage; it just seems as if the Buckeyes haven’t gotten to the point where they have any idea what to do in the aerial attack, no matter who the receivers are.
  • Shazier sharp defense – Holy hell, this kid can flat out play. A couple of missed assignments, but in the second half he was a one man wrecking crew… he’s going to be special.
  • A senior moment - Unfortunately, it feels as if this year’s team is looking for the exits, and who can blame them after all they’ve been through. Still, it’s disappointing that they were unable to exert their experience and will to keep the team focused. Read More

Buckeyes Fall Short On Senior Day, Lose 20-14 to Penn State

Written November 19th, 2011 by MaliBuckeye

It was a memorable Senior Day in Columbus, although not the memories that Buckeye fans were hoping for.  Ohio State’s offense continued to struggle against a solid PSU defense, and the Buckeye D were unable to effectively stop the big plays as Penn State moved to a Wildcat package to have success running the ball.

After returning from his 10 game suspension, Devier Posey received a warm welcome at his introduction during the Senior celebration; there was speculation that the fans might not have responded well to the last member of the Tat 5. His presence helped in the game, but in the end it wasn’t enough.

Ohio State deferred to the second half, and PSU started on the OSU 20 after a huge kick. However, on the first play, Howard committed pass interference after biting on the play action.  OSU’s D managed to shut out the Lions on first and second down, but gave up a slant for the first. PSU went to the wildcat, with Drake taking the snap and handing off to Green; who burst up the middle (and past Ryan Shazier) and ran 39 yards for the early PSU touchdown.

Ohio State’s Offense started with a run up the middle. Surprise, right? Miller took a sack on second down, and completed a pass to DeVier on a broken play. A pass to Herron on first down fell incomplete, but Miller’s keeper on the option look picked up eight yards; Boom picked up the first down off tackle. Boom was tripped up after a three yard gain on first down, but picked up nothing on the second.  A fumbled snap on third down, and Buchanan came out and punted into the endzone.

What Do You Want To See On Saturday? Penn State Edition

Written November 18th, 2011 by MaliBuckeye

It’s Senior Day in the ‘Shoe, and we put together a wish list for what we’d like to give them all as going away presents:

Eric

  • Ohio Stadium-  I’ll be attending the game, and let me tell you I desperately want to see

    Welcome Back

    this building again.

  • The Best from Buckeye Fans- It shouldn’t have to be said in order for OSU fans to be as respectful as possible, but let’s remember that the PSU players are not responsible for what happened.  If anything, they deserve our applause for continuing to play hard despite this dreadful situation.  A lesser team would have completely folded already.
  • 100 Yards from DeVier Posey- He’s not supposed to start, but he will play.  Here’s hoping Braxton Miller can hit him plenty of times.
  • 100 Yards from Boom Herron- I was disappointed that he didn’t break 100 against Purdue, but with Posey back he at least stands a chance against PSU.  That’s assuming, of course, that Penn State actually starts to respect our passing game.
  • A passing game that Penn State has to respect- Yea, like I said.  Make the Nittany Lions respect our ability to throw and it will open up what we do best – running the football down defenses’ throats.
  • A pick-six- Penn State is famous these days for throwing pick-sixes in Ohio Stadium.  I would definitely like to see that streak continue.

Chris

  • Boom goes the dynamite – This is Boom’s last appearance in the ‘Shoe. I think something in the vicinity of 25 carries for 200 yards and a pair of TDs will do nicely. It would give Boom a nice send off for what has been a tough season in Columbus.
  • A pocket full of Poseys – Same goes for Devier. His first game back. I would love to see the offense target Devier 10-15 times at least. He needs to become a threat down field. The Buckeyes need to go to him early and often.
  • Shazier sharp defense – I think we all love what Ryan Shazier can do, but I was impressed watching the energy the guy brought to the field. There aren’t too many excitable coaches on this staff or on this defense. Shazier can inject some fun and energy into the game, and this may be just what the Silver Bullets need.
  • A senior moment - Maybe this year hasn’t been up to snuff for what the Buckeyes normally on the field.  This however is a very resilient class. They have put up with a ton of garbage that no senior class should have to put up with. I would love nothing more for there to be a great send off for a great senior class. Read More
