It’s the last week of the regular season and just like when we started our pick ‘em we are tied.
Gary went 3-3 last week, picking OSU, Sparty and Whiskey correctly, while whiffing on TTUN, Purdon’t and Penn State. The only difference with my picks was that I took Illinois over the Boilerstinkers.
So this week we have six games.
SPOILER ALERT: We will have to have a tiebreaker next week.
Gary and I have picked the same on all the games. We are taking Ohio State, Nebraska, Sparty, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Indiana.
No matter how you slice it, we are going to end up tied. I really, really tried to pick one game against Gary. But I couldn’t find one where I felt even remotely comfortable. Gary didn’t want to take any chances either.
Soooooooooooooooooooo, we will look ahead to next week where there are eight games we will use as our tiebreaker. And total points in the B1G title game will serve as the ultimate tiebreaker. IF we both pick the same number of points, I don’t know what to tell you.
Beer chugging contest? Jagerbombs?
Standings heading into final week:
Gary and Scott: 26-13
We’ve got two weeks left.
But I have managed to close the gap the last couple weeks and one game separates us thanks to my brilliance the last half of the season.
Recapping last week, Gary went 3-2, missing the Northwestern and Sparty games. I was 4-1, whiffing on Northwestern as well.
Interesting games this week. Several could go either way and we are both apparently being cautious with our picks.
“I have to get serious now because I’m done letting (Scott) get back in this thing,” Gary said.
He likes OSU, Sparty, Michigan, Purdue, Wisconsin and Penn State. I agree with him on OSU, Northwestern, Michigan and Whiskey. I would love to take Iowa and Northwestern as upset specials, but I’ve got a chance to win and I refuse to do anything stupid. I’ll go along with Penn State just to stay on pace with Gary, but I can’t take Purdue. Even though it’s a road game, I’m gonna take the Illini. I have confidence in them. Someone else doesn’t.
“Illinois apparently never wants to win in the B1G again,” Gary quipped.
Yes they do and yes they will.
So to recap:
The countdown begins.
To quote The Holy Grail, my favorite Monty Python movie, “Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three.”
We have three weeks left in the regular season and our Pick ‘Em just got very interesting.
Gary’s lead over me is down to just two games and he is about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. To recap last week, Gary went 3-2, missing on Michigan over Nebraska and Penn State over Minnesota. I went 4-1, missing only on the Michigan choke job.
This week we have a couple games that could go either way. Scott and Gary both like OSU to crush Illinois and retain the Illibuck Trophy, Wisconsin to handle Indiana, Northwestern to beat TTUN and Penn State to beat Purdue.
But Gary is jumping off the Sparty bandwagon and taking Nebraska. I disagree.
“Sparty will choke and Michigan will continue to spiral out of control,” Gary said. He’s half right.
I can already envision being one game out with two weeks left. And if it weren’t for me battling strep and bronchitis, I’d be talking a lot more trash.
So to recap:
Gary: Penn State, OSU, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Nebraska.
Scott: Penn State, OSU, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Michigan State.
Several hotels in Las Vegas have offered to comp me as often as I want to visit as long as I continue to pick games so poorly.
After 17 games yours truly sits at a Pepto Abysmal 9-8 while Gary is sitting pretty at 13-4.
I think just to avoid any further embarrassment I’m going to mimic his picks the rest of the season.
That wouldn’t be fun.
Of course neither is this.
Last week was pretty lame. We both guessed right with OSU over Penn State. We both were wrong with Northwestern and Nebraska.
But the Dantonio Effect worked again as Sparty beat Chief Illiniweck.
We have a full slate this week so fasten the seat belts and get ready.
Actually this one is pretty easy. Gary and I agree on all the games but one. We are both taking Wisconsin over Iowa, Indiana over Minnesota, Nebraska over Northwestern, Penn State over Illinois and Purdue over Ohio State.
Just kidding on that last one. Wanted to see if you paying attention.
I am ready to jump on the Dantonio Bandwagon and take the Green and White over the Maize and Blue, but Gary isn’t showing the love.
“Time for Sparty to choke, much like you on your picks,” he said.
So let’s recap:
Scott and Gary: Wisconsin, Indiana, Nebraska, Penn State, Ohio State.
Scott: Michigan State
OK, I’m starting to feel a little nauseated.
This pick ‘em thing is not working out like I planned.
Of course I expected to win. Who expects to lose other than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
Let’s recap our last week of picks, which was two weeks ago. Took a week off to attend the funeral of my 95-year-old grandmother in South Bend.
So our picks from the previous week included both Gary and myself picking Penn State over TTUN and Nebraska over Purdon’t.
Gary took Sparty and the Badgers, while I incorrectly took Indiana and Northwestern. Blech!
Once again we don’t have a consensus for this week’s picks.
Gary and I agree that Ohio State will beat Penn State, Nebraska will beat Minnesota and that Northwestern will win at Iowa.
But again, we differ in another game.
I like Illinois to defend the home field against Sparty, who couldn’t score with a pocket full of change in a …. well, never mind.
“Sticking with my hometown boy Dantonio to bring me success in beating down a Chicago Blackhawks fan,” Gary said smugly.
Illinois can’t stink all the time, right?
So to recap:
Standings after four weeks:
