Silver Bullet Points Faces A Dexter Invasion

Written July 24th, 2013 by Joe Dexter

It’s Wednesday and the Silver Bullet points are soaring faster than ever before. With MaliBuckeye climbing mountains like a Bauserman, the SBP faces a tough week with a brand new face (for radio). While your Wednesday ammunition king pin visits one of the greatest national landmarks in the nation, It’s my pleasure to bring you an invaded version of Silver Bullet Points. Since I get a chance to sit in Mali’s seat about once every two years, It’s imperative that I set the tone with the best soundtrack that the SBP has ever seen. Let’s just say I’m like Colonel Bruce and the Codetalkers.  “I’m So Glad” to be here!

This isn’t your mom and dad’s SBP…..

  • You can’t Hyde from the truth – But you can surely get confused trying to figure out what it is. First he was booted from the team, then he was suspended pending investigation. Now, Charles Robinson of Yahoo is reporting that video provided by Sugar Bar 2 shows that Hyde never physically assaulted the alleged victim, despite being punched by her. Of course, this is “according to sources.” Robinson’s sources also say that they believe all charges will be dropped against Hyde.
  • No safety In Numbers – Unless you’re looking at a football roster! Amongst all the crazy news from early in the week, We now have the new numbers assigned to incoming freshman. Thanks to LGHL for laying them all out for us on one document. I can’t wait to tell my friends that Cameron Johnston is #95! In addition, Ohio State has released an official roster update for the upcoming season, amidst the 4 players disciplined on Monday.
  • ADV In Italy – He’s the greatest Italian product since sliced bread. Amedeo Delle Valle instantly became a fan favorite with the Buckeyes as a freshman. Now his game is really starting to shine. In the Under-20 European Championships last weekend, ADV scored 17 points in the 4th quarter in the gold medal game against Latvia. Della Valle scored 14 consecutive points, making all three of his shots from beyond the arc. He was also named the tournament MVP as well. Can’t wait to see him get a bump up in the rotation for Thad Matta next season.
  • Friday Night Lights – One of the biggest recruiting events in the country is here this Friday, as players across the country make their way to the Horse Shoe as Ohio State puts on it’s 2nd annual Friday Night Lights. ESPN Insider has a decorated list of who will be there. Jim, our recruiting guru, put together a primer for Friday as well. Make sure you check out his great breakdown position by position.
  • Your Home is Waiting For You -  There are many reasons why recruits love to be a part of Ohio State football. One of the many successes of recruiting starts with attention to detail. Yesterday, many top prospects received some top notch recruiting pitches. The coaching staff sent unique individual images of players inside the Ohio Stadium, with the words, “Your Home is Waiting For You” on the top of the picture.  Just below that, “Join the Family” with the Urbanator’s signature. Here is what 2014 lineman prospect Demetrius Knox got in his mailbox. My favorite photo though has to go to 2014 tight end prospect Mike Gesicki.
  • Tell Me Something I don’t Know – Online ticket outlet TicketCity has released a top 25 most engaging fanbases in college football. From the great Mashable: “Their secret sauce takes into account Twitter followings, Facebook likes and “talking about” metrics, as well as a variety of IRL factors including attendance, percentage of stadium capacity filled at home games and home ticket prices from the 2012 season.” Ohio State ranks 4th. Michigan is ranked 1st. Plain and simple, somebody messed up the algorithm.
  • Cheap Plug – Hey, if it isn’t your show, you have to take advantage of the spotlight when you get a chance! Check out my interview on WHO-AM in Des Moines talking Ohio State football
  • Ticket Pre-Sale – OH YEAH BABY! Picture below explains it all!

Silver Bullet Points Gets Festive

Written December 12th, 2012 by MaliBuckeye

I find tinsel distracting

Tuesday’s news gave us two hall of fame suggestions for today’s sountrack(s).  And no, it’s not Christmas music- we’ll get to that later.

Buckeye 411

  • Major Awards- It’s the silly season for College Football, and sure enough America’s favorite collegiate popularity contest machine has decided to include some Buckeyes as a reward for the undefeated season. ESPN put Bradley Roby on it’s All American First Team. (FWIW, ESPN also tabbed TTUN’s Tyler Lewan to it’s All American list; you may remember Lewan from his impression of a turnstile against Ohio State’s freshmen defensive linemen.) The Associate Press had a little less love for Ohio State’s defense- Roby and Johnathan Hankins were on the second team, while John Simon was a third team award winner.
  • More Love For Simon- He told a Youngstown paper earlier this week that he was planning on playing in the Senior Bowl; certainly a sign that his rehab is going according to plan. Simon was also named a finalist for the Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s national award for the Bobby Bowden Award.  We say this a lot, but I will honestly miss watching #54 lead his teammates on the field more than any Buckeye I can remember of late.
  • Coaches, Too- Urban Meyer is a finalist for the 2012 Liberty Mutual Coach Of the Year, in spite of the fact that he couldn’t win the B1G CotY (an award that Ramzy nailed in his description of it as an award that’s  “granted only for temporarily overcoming institutional mediocrity.”).  Offensive Line Coach Ed Warriner has also picked up some hardware this week, being named the national offensive line coach of the year by his peers… pretty interesting what happens when you stop trying to run “Dave” every single play, ain’t it?
  • Directions- “Well, you just go down to 12-0 Row and take a left…
  • Boom. Well, Cincinnati and their fans had a lot of fun with their brief success and stint as “Ohio’s BCS Team”- but any visions of being the premier program in the state ended on Tuesday, when it was revealed that Urban Meyer was asked to stump on their behest as they seek ACC membership. For those keeping score at home- Ohio State coaches don’t leave for other programs, and Ohio State doesn’t ask Cincinnati coaches to help hook them up.
  • Pretty In Pink- There’s nothing more awkward looking than a middle aged guy standing in Victoria’s Secret during Christmas, picking up something for his special someone. Well, that “awkward” just got a little less so, ‘cause now you’re shopping for Buckeye gear.
  • Best For Last- It should be no surprise that we’re huge fans of Sammy Silverman, the graphic design guru for Ohio State this season. So, we’ve got a ton of love for his “season recap” poster- check it out after the jump: Read More

The Week That Were: 11.13.10

Written November 14th, 2010 by MaliBuckeye

Time once again to take a look back at all the fancy doin’s in the realm of college football.  This week’s theme music reminds you to not call it a comeback…

Some sad news to end the weekend: Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Southern Miss players who were shot last night following their game. Word is that they’re stable, and we hope their recovery goes well.

Speaking of injuries, Northwestern’s QB Dan Persa ruptured his Achilles on the winning TD toss, as Iowa went down to defeat at the hands of the Purple yet again. Interestingly enough, he was not tackled on the play. This is the second year in a row that a QB has gotten injured in this epic (?) match up between the Hawkeyes and Wildkitties; you’ve got to hope that wonder if Persa’s backup has an attractive mom as well. Persa will be missed- he played with a ton of heart and skill, and had just the right amount of moxie. Read More
